Essential of Sociology Project

Human trafficking involves exploiting people through force, fraud or deception for profit. It occurs worldwide and victims can be of any age, gender or background. Common types of human trafficking include sex trafficking, forced labor, and debt bondage. In India, women and children are particularly vulnerable to being trafficked, especially for commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor. Statistics show thousands of human trafficking cases are reported in India each year, though the actual number is likely much higher. Various efforts are being made to prevent trafficking and support victims, but more work is still needed to address this serious human rights issue.

Human Trafficking
20BLB1052

Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people

through force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit. Men, women
and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims of this crime, which
occurs in every region of the world. The traffickers often use violence or fraudulent
employment agencies and fake promises of education and job opportunities to trick and
coerce their victims.
People do not need to be moved across borders to be trafficked. In truth, trafficking isn't
defined by transporting or moving the victim; it can occur within a single country, or even
within a single town. People can be trafficked and exploited in a variety of ways, including
sexual exploitation, forced labor, begging, and criminal activity (such as growing cannabis or
trafficking drugs).
Indian women are dealt to the Middle East for business sexual double-dealing. Indian
travelers who relocate readily consistently to the Middle East and Europe for function as
homegrown workers and low-talented workers may likewise wind up piece of the illegal
exploitation industry. In such cases, laborers might have been 'enlisted' via deceitful
enrollment rehearses that lead them straightforwardly into circumstances of constrained
work, including obligation subjugation; in different cases, high obligations caused to pay
enrollment expenses leave them powerless against double-dealing by corrupt managers in the
objective nations, where some are exposed to states of compulsory bondage, including non-
installment of wages, limitations on development, unlawful retention of identifications, and
physical or sexual maltreatment.
The 3 most common types of human trafficking are sex trafficking, forced labor, and debt
bondage. Forced labor, also known as involuntary servitude, is the biggest sector of
trafficking in the world, according to the U.S. Department of State. Debt bondage is another
form of human trafficking in which an individual is forced to work in order to pay a debt.
Sex trafficking disproportionately affects women and children and involves forced
participation in commercial sex acts. In the United States, any child under the age of 18 who
has been involved in a commercial sex act is considered a trafficking victim. Women and
girls make up 80% of the people trafficked transnationally. Yearly, traffickers exploit 1
million children in the commercial sex trade.
Perceptions of human trafficking often involve women forced into prostitution. This is just
one aspect of human trafficking. Survivors of trafficking also include men and children, and
these survivors are exploited by any number of means. Victims may be forced into any of the
following types of labor, among others:
• domestic servitude • agricultural work • manufacturing
• construction • hair and nail salons • prostitution
• strip club dancing

My review :
As surfing and reading various article about human trafficking and not only in India also
across the world its being a threat for us this gives me a question is world a safer place and
also whether we can accept job offer for works . But still various organizations and NGO
trying to rescue and various step are taken to prevent and control over human trafficking . We
can see that there is been human trafficking even in the pandemic situations which is even a
shocking and most of the targeted people where women and children’s , they where trafficked
for forced workers and sex exploitation .75% being trafficked are women and 35% are
children and remaining are men , in this traffickers 45% of them are women . this shows that
humanity is slowly vanishing in the world .
Since these data’s shows massive impact and also it says 100s of children being trafficked
every day and there are 6000 case against human trafficking out of which 250 cases are being
rescued . Various actions where taken against human trafficking but still its existence is still
there it can only be vanished by slowly reducing it . Even though the government and various
action are taken across country still its happening , so I would say we have to be careful and
spread even more awareness on human trafficking .

Case study :
Some victims who got affected in human trafficking in India :
Three years ago, 16-year-old Somesh was lured away from his village in Bihar to Jaipur by
some men from his neighbourhood on the premise of enrolling him in a good school and
helping him study. Somesh belongs to a low-income family and his father was struggling to
support a household of four. Rather than escaping to a better life, Somesh ended up as a
human trafficking victim. He was forced to work in a factory along with a few other
children, also trafficked from his village in Bihar. He says that they were beaten up and
prevented from calling their respective families. Somesh managed to return home after being
rescued by an NGO last year. Though the family has struggled to stay afloat in the wake of
the Covid-19 pandemic, he is relieved to be with his loved ones.
Rani, 12-year-old , went missing after going to collect water from a nearby hand pump, a
daily chore. Someone approached her from behind and held a rag to her face until she passed
out. Her parents searched desperately for her but had given up hope of ever seeing her again.
When she came to, she realized she was hundreds of miles from home and being sold for
prostitution.
Monali (name changed), however, was not as lucky as Rani and Chandni. She was 13 years
old, studying in Class VI when someone kidnapped her from her home in Medinipur district
of West Bengal and trafficked her to the Kalahandi district of Odisha. She was tortured and
abused, raped by her trafficker and was going to be sold as a child bride. Her courage,
however, did not let her give up; it finally paid off as she managed to escape one day. A car
driver found her terrified in a local market and took her to the police station. Suchetana
Mohila Mondali, an anti-trafficking organisation and ally of ActionAid India, linked up with
her and took her to her family. But they refused to accept her. Monali now lives in a
government shelter home.

Magnitude of Human Trafficking In India :

Information proposes that 95% of people dealt with India are constrained into prostitution. A
2014 Dasra report expressed that in India almost 16 million ladies are survivors of sex
dealing, with 40% of them being youths and kids. Over 70% of casualties are unskilled and
come from amazingly devastated families. Dealers go after weak families by making bogus
guarantees of a new position, extra pay and better everyday environments. In excess of 8
million kids matured somewhere in the range of 5 and 14 are working in fields, unsafe
processing plants, shops and homes. The act of kid work keeps on flourishing across areas in
India and the pandemic has exacerbated it. The Global Work Association (ILO) anticipated
the Coronavirus pandemic has prompted a flood in kid work without precedent for a very
long time, gambling many years of progress made around here .In spite of India's rigid laws
against illegal exploitation and kid work, many kids are dealt each year. Young ladies can be
brought for just 30,000 in Jharkhand, as indicated by an alarming article by the online news
entryway The Print, which is not exactly a large portion of the cost of a "solid goat."

Statistics

Preventive measures :

Volunteer:

Volunteering time and effort to an anti-trafficking organization is a great way to contribute to

the fight against human trafficking. In addition to helping the organization itself, the more
volunteers there are, the greater the outreach can be. For example, Unseen is a nonprofit
organization that helps victims of human trafficking by providing specialist care to help them
along the road to recovery. There are several volunteer roles with Unseen, ranging in levels
of time commitment.

Be aware of the signs of human trafficking:

Being educated on signs that could indicate someone is a victim of human trafficking
increases the likelihood of reporting and could give a voice to victims who do not feel
comfortable speaking out for themselves. Signs that someone is a victim of human trafficking
come in several categories. Poor work and living conditions, poor mental health and lack of
control are some of the main areas to look for.

Hold events to raise awareness:

Raising awareness for human trafficking can also get more people involved and interested in
joining the fight. It can create a chain reaction, leading to more people lobbying, fundraising
and educating themselves. Regardless of what the event is, they are efficient ways to raise
awareness for a cause and gain new followers.

Boycott products and companies that permit human trafficking:

Many goods produced in the United States and abroad are products of victims of human
trafficking. Being conscientious about the products consumed and the companies supported is
an easy way to contribute to the fight against human trafficking. An easy way to find out
what products contribute to a “slavery footprint,” is the Department of Labor’s List of Goods
Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor.

Help survivors:

Donate clothes and other goods to shelters for victims of human trafficking. Also, encourage
businesses to give jobs to survivors, helping them get back on their feet and get a fresh start.
If applicable, offering legal advice to survivors allows them an opportunity to not only move
forward but to gain justice. Helping survivors and contributing to their recovery stops the
cycle of trauma in its tracks and ensures it won’t repeat itself.

Stay informed:
There are numerous enemy of dealing charities with sites and updates that individuals can
buy in to, keeping them on top of it of any new data or answers for illegal exploitation. For
instance, the not-for-profit association Polaris Undertaking offers refreshes through email for
any individual who decides to buy in.

Report suspicions :

It is important to Know the assets accessible. When voyaging abroad, it is helpful to look
into the crisis telephone number of the offered country, to empower fast reports should a
dealing casualty be spotted.

Impact :

Human trafficking in India results in women suffering from both mental and physical issues.
Mental issues include disorders such as PTSD, depression and anxiety. The lack of control
women have in trafficking increases their risk of suffering from mental disorders. Women
who are forced into trafficking are at a higher risk for HIV, TB, and other STDs. Condoms
are rarely used and therefore there is a higher risk for victims to suffer from an STD.

Conclusion :

Human trafficking is a cast and wide network which cant be erased completely still even
though there are precautions taken people are even trafficked in recent years shows that it
cant be removed but can be reduced . it has created both poestive and negative impact in
society , as there were many organisation comes in to prevent and rescue the victims and
provide them shelter . still many couldn’t be prevented from getting kidnapped or trafficked .

Dealing with people, particularly kids, is a type of advanced servitude and requires an all
encompassing, multi-sectoral way to deal with address the complex element of the issue. It is
an issue that disregards the rights and pride of the people in question and in this way requires
basically a kid rights point of view, while chipping away at its destruction. In the battle
against dealing, administrative associations, non-administrative associations, common
society, pressure gatherings and worldwide bodies, all need to assume a significant part and
work in show. Law cannot be the only instrument to address complex social problems.
