Fluid Simulation for 3D Animators

This document outlines a student project to simulate a waterfall scene using RealFlow software. The objective is to create a waterfall scene from scratch following the instructor's steps. Materials used include 3ds Max and RealFlow for simulation, and V-Ray for rendering. The workflow involves creating a mountain terrain in 3ds Max, importing it into RealFlow to set up the fluid simulation, exporting the results back to 3ds Max for texturing and lighting with V-Ray, then rendering the final scene. The student learned about fluid simulation through completing this project under the guidance of their instructor.

CHAPTER 1
Introduction

A simulation is an animated model that mimics the operation of an existing or

proposed system and fluid simulation refers to computer graphics techniques for
generating realistic animations of fluids such as water and smoke. The RealFlow
Renderkit is a set of tools designed to facilitate the rendering of fluids. It enables the
generation of procedural geometry at render time and the rendering of individual
fluid particles. With this interface, fluids can also be rendered as foam and spray. In
this project I am going to use this software to enhance my fluid simulation workflow.

CHAPTER 2
Objective

Objective plays an essential part to prepare a project. My objective is to create a

scene of waterfall from the scratch and to do this I have followed all the steps
provided by my course teacher.

Target Audience
Every creation has a purpose behind its creation. The purpose of my project is
fulfilling the demand of the 3D animation world.

CHAPTER 3
Materials And Method

In this project I have used Max and RealFlow software. For rendering I have used
V-ray.

3
Workflow

I have created a plane in Max and increased the subdivisions. After converting to
editable poly, I have used push pull and relax tools to create the mountain.

Then I have converted it mesh to triangulate and exported as object. I have imported
it in RealFlow and gone to Hybrido to create an open domain and emitter. I have
taken a plane and placed it. I have taken Gravity and K_Volume Daemons. I have
gone to emitter and ticked stream and increased surface offset a little bit from the
object.

Then I have started simulation and increased cell size a little bit. After that I have
converted it to mesh and exported a stitch file to open it in Max.

I have opened the stitch file in Max.

7
Then I have done my texturing and lighting part by using V-ray Asset Browser and
V-ray Sun. I have taken a V-ray Camera and changed some settings. I have also done
some render settings and rendered my scene.

CHAPTER 4
Summary And Conclusions

I have learned a lot about fluid simulation from this course and my course teacher
guided me very well. I would love to work more.
