‘m Svitlana from Vinnytsia and I'd like to tell you about my
home town. It was founded as a small settlement on the
picturesque banks of the Southern Buh River in 1363.
The history ofthis area is closely connected with many Ukrainian
heroes such as Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, Ivan Bohun and Maksym
Kryonis, Sections of a high brick town wall, several churches.
and cathedrals as well as many homes have survived from olden
‘times and attract visitors from many parts of our country. Tourists
also like visting the museum of famous Ukrainian writer Mykhailo
Kotsubynskyi (1864-1913). The small white house where he lived
with his family is in the centre of Vinnytsia.
Nowadays Vinnytsia is the main city of the Vinnytsia region, one
of the 25 regions in Ukraine. It is situated in the central part of
the country, The total area of Vinnytsia region is about 16,000
square miles. The population is about half a million people. The
‘main rivers are the Southern Buh and the Dniester. We also have
nearly 50 small rivers and 2,300 lakes. Our rivers and lakes are

family. We love our borshch and eat it hot or cold, for lunch or

village of Podoliantsi, Zhytomyr region. He was
a qualified vet and worked as a veterinary
