Educating, Enabling and Empowering

Underprivileged Children in rural parts of the
Country.

Goal : - View Project documentation at: -

Aims to Fill Learning Experience shorturl.at/rwKNW
between Volunteers and
Underprivileged Children.

Education systems have been forced to implement innovations in remote learning at scale. To reach as
many underprivileged children as possible, volunteer remote-learning based approach with online
resources will amplify the pity conditions.
Volunteers can help these children by teaching them what they know and help them nurture new talents
and explore their ambitions.
World Youth Council is such non-profit organization which strives towards this goal and help
underprivileged children through online zoom classes. Government provides school children free tablets
for each 3 children in remote area to aid their learning process.

Assumptions

Hypothesis 1 – Rural Students are weak in English speaking and have Poor access to
Education.

Hypothesis 2 – Due to Pandemic shift, rural area school students need extra help in
preparing for their board exams.

SECONDARY RESEARCH

Researched through Various News Reports.

NGO's like World Youth Council has an initiative 'Teach From Home'
where volunteers would teach underprivileged children.
Information was collected through social media channels where live
webinar was being held.

#Young Students Looking for Social Change.
Persona 1
Name: - Ajay
Age – 20-23.
Education – Pursuing Graduation.
Backstory – Hi My name is Pasham, I’m pursuing my B. Tech from EE background. I need to do
internship compulsory to get my degree, so I have joined MISSION BOARDS to volunteer students
for 3 months. I help them prepare for BOARD Exam and due to pandemic, their schools got shut
down. I will be teaching them English subject and I want to help underprivileged children. I teach
them through Zoom platform and I’m happy to be a part of this mission.
Goals – Wants to get internship certificate; He/She is helping them to prepare for their boards.
Looking to Complete an internship as a part of his curriculum.
Pain points –
Have to wait for students to join, sometimes no one joins.
Students can’t understand English language.
it’s very difficult to teach them, requires an extra effort.
Only has Mobile Device to teach with (Not everyone has a laptop).
#People get a Chance to make a Change while working..
Persona 2 Name :- Kiran
Age – 35 yr.
Education – Masters Level.
Profession – Working in organization.
Backstory – Hi my name is Pooja, and I’ve worked for Big Four’s, while I was working, I got a chance to
meet underprivileged students from Maharashtra schools and was very fortunate to mentor them. I was
training them on behavioral soft skills and other computer software’s. Also, I am also teaching students
remotely, this is a part of initiative by corporate where we were able to engage with students and talk to
them. It was nice and fun, but there were many challenges throughout. I had to prepare my own materials
and had to manage their doubts on call. It would be great if organization would have provided some kind
of common and simple platform.
Goals – Be part of this initiative and commitment to doing the given activity by CSR team for helping out
people.
Pain points –
Everybody says I’ll go for it, but when it comes to actually going to do the activity, whether it’s a training
program, it’s very challenging.
I found the challenge between online vs F2F, in F2F it’s so easy to gauge the body language,
Whereas here, when you have it online, unless keeping students engage is very hard.
#Students Preparing for Board Exams.
Persona 3

Name: - Kajal
Age – 14 yr.
Education – 10th Class.
Backstory – Hi I’m Anita and I’m from rural village of Uttar Pradesh, currently I’m pursuing my 10th class from
state board and due to pandemic, my schools got closed. Some NGOs like Mission Boards – Teach from Home
gave us free tablet only for study purpose and we were able to access live learning session. My mom and dad
cannot afford tuition fee for us. We’re also making our best to make out of this opportunity.
Goals – Wants to prepare for BOARD Exam. To learn from live volunteer.
Pain points –
Having regular internet connectivity issue.
For Young ones, they are facing difficulty to interact with computer software’s,
Usually gets busy in household work,
Wants to become something in a future, but I’m not sure about my future because of poverty.
USER POV1

Students should be happy enough to connect.

I taught English and some classes of chemistry. The mode of teaching was
mostly Hindi, but I try to explain them 2 English words and a couple of activity
in English, After the class, I try to interact with them in English, but most of
the medium of instruction was Hindi.
The problem with internet was really challenging and there were lot of
network issues, the audio was lagging. I planned some activity among them and
tried to communicate well to them building an interacting session, I was
making them not to feel afraid learning new things. As soon as they get a
doubt, I tell them to ask immediately during the session. As of now I am okay in
afternoon sessions only. I don’t give them break due to network issues, so I try
to finish the session as soon as possible. I am trying to give students better
education.

The management from NGO is good but the response from manager is not
immediate and their parents should be educated about their student’s future.
We were not allowed to call them personally, so the connection between me
and the students were done by the manager, so they use to call their parents.

Pasham Speaks
USER POV2

Rahul Singh Badrinath is a student, lives in Uttarakhand and he joined

volunteering through his sister suggestion. He thinks that student who
can’t afford tuition or basic education and he wants to deliver that kind of
quality coaching for them during the tenure. I don’t judge the students and
want to work on my communication skills as well. He also wants to guide
them personally for their career but he can’t connect with students other
than the session allotted to them. For each session, he had to cover one
topic at least. Students also faced internet connectivity issue because they
come from a Chhattisgarh rural area.
They have to ask students for their syllabus, because volunteer is unaware
of these. Students don’t understand so much, so mainly they have to
interact with Hindi.

User - Rahul
Singh
USER POV2

Pooja , is a startup founder, and working in organization, during her tenure,

she had an opportunity to work for underprivileged children in Maharashtra
village.
She had to construct houses for tribal people. We’ve been working in a
corporate world, don’t understand how difficult it is to do a manual task or
activity.
Just to carry a cement, we found it so difficult. One important characteristic
should be passion to make a difference, besides passion, The time that they
take and make to make that difference. If have to teach an underprivileged
child, I will not look at: - I have narrated this entire knowledge to this child, I
will actually gauge- has the child understood? Has she been able to percolate
the data inside? You don’t make a person feel less inferior, or you allow that
the feeling to come, as a trainer, it’s very important being connected with the
people.
Students get engaged but they will not go out of their way. The students
whom they select, you see a disconnect in them, sometimes I actually end up
thinking for a girl who actually end up telling me this -> she addressed me
and said -> “When we go home, I have to sit and do all the house-work”, I
don’t have the time to study, we don’t have a computer or we don’t have a
tablet
EMPATHY MAPPING

THINK SAYS
it will be an exciting opportunity to make a change.

Students should be happy enough to connect. Student faces comfort in Language Barrier.
There should be interactive platform. Breaks are required, They get bored in 3hr session.
Has it made a difference? I use to take more of an oral assessment.
Has the child understood ? Has he/she able to Students used to skip classes due to various reasons.
perculate data in mind ? Students face lot of network connectivity issues.
Schools were shut half-of-time during pandemic.

DOES FEELS

Most of the time I focus on their english speaking skills. Their (Students) ability to Correlate is not good.
I take time to ensure that I give same attention to all. Am i making a Difference ?
I try make them not afraid of learning new things. Are they connected in the Class ?, Sometimes they
In Every Session, I used to make them learn 2-3 english need an ice-breaking sessions, being connected is very
words. important.
Had to prepare assessments for them to make their
learning effective.
