The purpose of the researchers in conducting this study in Eastern Visayas Basic Education
Research Festival, Philippines were to identify sleeping habits and reasons of sleeping late and to
determine the relationship of sleeping habits and classroom behavior and the relationship
between sleeping habits and academic performance of senior high school students (Paul Junrey
Arintoc Toyong, 2020 ). Lack of sufficient and adequate sleep can be harmful and even deadly.
It is a basic necessity of life and important part of learning. This study utilized descriptive and
correlational design to examine 119 senior high Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM)
students who were selected through simple random sampling. The first was the respondent’s
profile questionnaire that asked about the age, sex and the academic performance or the first
grading general average of the respondents. The researchers also asked the general average of the
respondents from the class advisers with the approval from the school principal and parents
consent were also secured for ethical practice.
St. Luke's launches first ever Comprehensive Insomnia Management Program, In the
Philippines, more than 10 million adults are said to suffer from insomnia and this is considered
to have one of the highest rates of sleep deprivation in the world. Insomnia is defined as the
inability to fall asleep or to stay asleep, even when given a chance to do so. It is associated with
fatigue and irritability “Among all the sleep disorders, insomnia is the most common. Yet none
of the hospitals have a specific service targeting insomnia,” (Dr. Jimmy V. Chang, 2014).The
program is designed to specifically address concerns of patients suffering from insomnia
especially the senior high school students. It is composed of specialists, such as sleep
psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, and sleep doctors.I n line with this, the Center recently
acquired a portable Sleep Study machine that is effective in diagnosing uncomplicated
Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The machine, which has four cardiorespiratory signals or polygraphs,
works to monitor and record patient’s breathing, oxygenation, and pulse rate. The portable Sleep
Study machine is ideal for Wellness patients with signs and symptoms of Obstructive Sleep
Apnea. Patients can be diagnosed sooner and hence, treatment delay can be avoided.

Sleep deprivation getting stuck in traffic does us and it is very important for anyone to have
adequate sleep to ensure good health and well being throughout our lives (Dr. Anthony
Leachon,2020).“The ideal time to be asleep is from 10 pm. to 6 am. or eight hours. Early waking
up is fine but not sustainable and it’s tough for commuter. Getting up early would mean lack of
sleep,” Leachon told The Philippine STAR. Sleep deprivation can lead to productivity loss
because you cannot focus on whatever you are doing foremost the students. It is also at risk of
getting injured because you are not able to concentrate. This can be a good matter if the
Department of Health focuses that each stage of sleep brings different benefits. It is during deep
sleep that the body repairs itself and builds up energy for the day ahead, and mind. studies say
the ability to function well also depends on whether a person is sleeping at a time when the body
is prepared and ready to sleep. The students clock should typically follows a 24-hour repeating
rhythm called the circadian rhythm. The rhythm affects every cell, tissue and organ in the body
and how they work.
Sleep is a vital facet of human existence that is vital to learning and memory moreover lack
of sleep is associated with significant impairment in learning. Medical students are a special
population because of the demands of medical school and determined the different sleeping
habits of medical students using a descriptive tool, with variables chosen specifically for this
study among students in a State University Run-Medical school in the Philippines. The
questionnaires used were the Epworth Sleepiness Score and specific questions about sleeping
habits. The General Weighted Average (GWA) of those who participated were obtained from the
student records section of the college. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the results on
different sleeping habits. A total of 426 medical students (or 60% of the total student population
of the college) participated and the average medical student is “sleep-deprived”, sleeping two
hours less (six hours) than the recommended daily minimum duration of sleep (eight to 10
hours). For the correlation of sleepiness and academic performance, we found out that there is no
significant difference in academic performance among those who are excessively sleepy.
Increased level of sleepiness does not correlate with poorer academic performance among these
medical students, despite them sleeping less than the general recommendation for adults.(Manuel
Peter Paul C. Jorge II et al., 2016-2017).
46% of Filipinos Don’t Get Enough Sleep, The Philippines has one of the highest rates of
sleep deprivation in Asia and 46 percent of Filipinos do not get enough sleep, while 32 percent
said that they sleep for less than 6 hours mainly the senior high school students due to their
school requirements. (Healthy Living Index,2016). This mirrors a lifestyle challenge that
urbanites worldwide are grappling with. Beyond lifestyle habits, one of the most common causes
of poor sleep quality in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a condition that disrupts the cycle and
affects one’s energy, intellectual performance, and long-term health. More than 50 doctors and
health care professionals attended educational lectures at the forum to augument their knowldege
in the diagnosis of OSA and by educating healthcare professionals at the Sleep Apnea Forum
