Rizal Law in Today’s Globalized World
Without first taking this course, I had never heard of the Republic Act 1425, also known as the
Rizal Law, and had no clue what it would be about. This course provided me with the opportunity to learn
about and comprehend those laws. I believe that such a law is extremely beneficial, particularly in raising
our maka-Pilipino energies and reminding us to remember and recognize our national hero, Jose Rizal.
The Republic Act 1425, also regarded as the Rizal law, mandates all high schools and college universities
to educate their students about Dr. Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings. Dr. Jose Rizal is our country's
national hero, and he has made significant contributions to the country's present position. Today's young
people, and perhaps even the general public, should be aware of and strive to ingest the great values for
which he died.
We examined these two popular novels of Rizal when I was in Grades 9 and 10, but we didn't
have enough time to learn for his other works or the narrative of his life. I think it's fantastic that I've
gained some background information about these books, which will help me learn more about them in the
future, and that I've also had the opportunity to learn about his other writings and experience. Since I
began learning about Rizal's life and writings in college, I believe it has had a significant influence on my
community. I believe that studying Rizal's life will be always interesting. It's in which we can learn about
what happened in this country and also how we got to where we are now. It also allows one to reflect from
previous mistakes and use them as a learning opportunity. We can learn some valuable lessons along the
way from his story, literature, and books, and we can also gain an appreciation and thorough
understanding of everything that Jose Rizal fought and died for as we research his life, writings, and
works. We may also draw parallels between his previous life and our own. By understanding Rizal's life,
today's youth have been inspired by the work of Dr. Jose Rizal, and as a result, a majority of them have
had the confidence to stand up for the nation.
As for myself, I believe that Rizal's story was truly inspirational, and that it is worthy of being
emulated, notably by today's youth. I understand that it might be difficult for us to emulate him because he
is willing to sacrifice himself for our nation, and I believe that the vast majority of us are incapable of doing
so. We may, nevertheless, mimic his values, which will support us in our everyday lives. Rizal's life story
was not only that of an average Filipino, but also that of a gifted and intelligent Filipino. He is an excellent
role model for all Filipinos. He is a hero who has always been willing to put his life on the line in order to
give his families and country the freedom and peace we have today. After researching his life, I
understood how good it is to know that a Filipino like Rizal lived and understood how the Filipino people
had stood up for their country, fighting and serving to the extent that this country could thrive. Rizal can
also be seen as an individual who instills in us the ideals of patriotism and nationalism, which he used as
a tool to defend his nation against the Spaniards' oppression and brutality.
Most students nowadays, I'm certain, have always wondered why we should research Rizal's life
in class. Why can't we just read Rizal's life story at home? Isn't it a waste of money and time? Isn't it an
extra burden on our studies, given that it's only a minor subject? Personally, I do not believe this is a
waste of time or an unnecessary burden on our research. However, it is well worth our time to learn more
about Rizal's character and the events that occurred in his life. Even though he was already gone, the
ideas, beliefs, visions, and beliefs he left behind will have a significant impact on our lives. I also believe
that everything he teaches us should not only be recalled, but also followed and put into action as we
continue on our path. Apart from the positive effects that Rizal's life has had on todays modern
youngsters, there are many negative influences. Rizal has a long history of partners, as we all know. That
being said, I do not agree that this is acceptable action. I believe that once an individual has met the
person they value, they must love that person unconditionally and value their relationships. If he cannot
pledge to love that person forever and to always be by her side, he should avoid intervening with her life
as he will only end up hurting that person. When it comes to getting relationships with someone, I believe
that today's youth should not be like Rizal; rather, they must be consistent in their love. They should learn
to value their relationships with their loved ones and avoid disappointing those they care for.
Our Filipino patriotism is weakening at the moment. In this global economy, we Filipinos,
especially the younger generation, are prone to adopt other cultures. We lose pride in our homeland and
are prone to adopting different cultures, a phenomenon known as colonial mindset. Our national hero, Dr.
Jose P. Rizal, is an excellent role model for nationalism and patriotism, particularly among the youth. His
life, works, and teachings will motivate us and making us courageous and committed, allowing us to
develop our Filipino identity and country (Santos, n.d.). We would also have been able to value the
independence we gained decades previously, which has been greatly facilitated by our ancestors, if we
studied our national hero's writings. They gave their lives to secure not only our independence but also
our national sovereignty, so both of these are regarded as a priceless heritage that we must preserve and
safeguard. We could also link Rizal's values and teachings to the current conditions and events in our
nation. Since colonialism is so prevalent in our society nowadays, we should be supportive of our own
identity and culture rather than that of some nation.
As learners, we will be better able to fully understand what Jose Rizal achieved for our nation.
This is also essential for everyone because it has been during our schooling period that we decide our
own goals and career paths. The higher education institutions will lead to the understanding that the
Philippines is a vital part of our values, and that servicing it is an instinctual responsibility of each of us, as
a result of this act. I agree that the history is the doorway to our tomorrow, and that “Ang kabataan ang
pag-asa ng ating bayan,” as most of us claim. The history, which is mainly documented in Rizal's works
and writings, would instill in us a deep sense of discipline and true moral character. We will then become
unselfish, real Filipinos who will rebuild our great nation and turn it from a weak to a globally successful
nation throughout the future.
