SPECIFICATION Rev. 4 JAN 2002
SCOPE
1.1 This specification outlines the mandatory requirements for the system of standard
piping/pipeline classes and shall be used with the whole of ECS Section 3, Piping.
1.2 An asterisk (*) indicates that additional information is provided by ESSO in an
addendum to this specification.
1.3 A pound sign (#) indicates that ESSO review/approval is required before design is
finalized or equipment is purchased.
SUMMARY OF ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
2.1 The following specifications, codes and standards listed in Table 1 form a part of this
specification.
2.2 The equipment and materials used shall conform to the latest editions, revisions and
addenda of the codes, standards and regulations listed in Table 1.

GENERAL NOTES ON PIPING CLASS TABLES
5.1 The standard piping classes are individual tables, indicating the specific requirements
for that class.
5.2 The Piping Class Table notes are documented in a separate section at the beginning of
ECS 3-30-3.
5.3 Pipe wall thickness calculations are documented separately in ECS 3-30-200, Pipe Wall
Thickness Tables.
5.4 Allowable branch connection types are tabulated in ECS 3-30-201, Branch Connection
Table.
5.5 Where it is not indicated otherwise, rating designation represents a "Pressure Class"
where rating is identical to ASME B16.34 or API 602 rating.
5.6 The abbreviations used in the piping and valve class sheets are shown in Table 3.
