A complete blood count (CBC) is used to evaluate overall health and detect wide range ol dsorders, including anemia, inlection and leukemia.
There have been some reports ol WBC and platelet counts being lower in venous blood than in capillary blood samples ,although sil within these relerence
ranges.
pOSSIBLE CAUSES OF ABNORMAL PARAMETERS
Hgh RBCHB, or HCT dehydration. polycythemia, shock, chronic hypoxia
Low RBC, Hb, or HCT anemia, thalassemia, and other hemogiobinopathies
Low MCV microcytic anemia
Hgh MCV-macrocyic anemia, liver disease

W sepsis, marrow hypoplasia
acule stress, Infeclion, malignancles
Low platelets risk of bleeding
High platelets - risk of thrombosis

MbcrocyuC AnemiaLeucOcyfosis can have Reactive thrombocytosis.
For microcytlc indices a Mentzer index ol less than 13 suggests that the patient may have thalassemia trait, and an index ol more than 13 suggests that the patient may
have iron dehclency.
