The researcher grew up at Rodriguez, Rizal. She used to see an ancestral house that
located beside the Municipality of Rodriguez. She starts wondering of who was the owner that

Historical Markers found at the front gate stated that house belong to Eulogio “Amang”
Rodriguez. In the researcher (19th) existences to Rodriguez, Rizal. She don’t have any idea who
is he. Even the workers at Municipality of Rodriguez never heard something about him. And
when the researcher entered to the ancestral house, she starts to investigate if Eulogio “Amang”
Rodriguez was a prime mover at Rodriguez, Rizal. This research is a qualitative type. The
researcher conduct the study at the Ancestral House of Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez, at Barangay
Balite, Rodriguez, Rizal where in the books that narrates about Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez
would the only place found out. And also, at the Library of Montalban- located at the back of
Montalban Center.
Problem
Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez has a life-long career as a public servant. He was elected
Senate President from 1952 to 1963. Prior to being senator, Amang has held different appointed
and elected positions in government as Mayor of Manila (1940), Secretary of Agriculture and
Commerce (1934), Congressman of 2nd district of Rizal (1925, 1931, and 1935), representative
of Nueva Viscaya (1924), Governor of Rizal (1916), and President of Montalban (1909). (From
Ancestral house of Rodriguez) But the natives in Rodriguez, Rizal has no idea of what Eulogio
“Amang” Rodriguez did to his town before he shine into national government. And from
Montalban it changed it to his name Rodriguez. The researcher aims to found out, Is Eulogio
“Amang” Rodriguez a prime mover at Rodriguez, Rizal.
Solution
Based on Maximiano Adona Hernandez statement who was born on
August 29, 1903, at the barrio balite in Montalban,Rizal. His father was
Cecilio Hernandez (Grandfather of the Current Mayor of Rodriguez,
Rizal) married a sister of Aling Monica, mother of Eulogio. Therefore,
He was a first cousin of Eulogio Rodriguez. All the data about his cousin

teenage years was supplied by him in interview with the author (Carlo
Quirino) in July of 1981 at the municipality building of Montalban. From the book of Amang:
Life and Times of Eulogio Rodriguez Sr. at Ancestral House of Rodriguez:
“Let discuss first who is Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez is, he was born on January 21,
1883 at Rodriguez, Rizal (Known as Montalban, Rizal). He was the eldest son of
Petronillo Rodriguez and Monica Adona. Eulogio used to enjoy his Childhood like
playing on streets to boys in town. When the American came by at our country the
silver coins became abundant to his pocket so, he start to sell bibingka and rice cakes
to impress the girls in town.”
According to Dr. Pedro Rodriguez who was born in 1888, studied high school in Pasig (Before,
It was part of Rizal province), And obtained his medical degree at University of the Philippines
brother of Eulogio also known at “Yoyong”.
“Yoyong used to studied in school of Benedicto Luna in Manila, and later transfer to
Colegio De San Juan De Letran. As time goes by, Eulogio named became loud at the
business industry.”
According to Mariano C. Melendres, who died in pasig at the age of 100 on July 11, 1981 at the
time when this biography was being started. He was a co-founder of the democrata party in
Rizal Province, together with Eulogio Rodriguez, Sr. And Juan Sumulong. He served as
provincial governor from 1912 to 1916 and became in congressman from the second district of
Rizal. He was a close friend and political collaboration of Yoyong.
“Logio kept his eyes and ears to business opportunities. In 1899, He starts selling
unhusked rice to middlemen, carabaos to farmers in the vacinity. Later on, he began
selling zacate or fodder grass to American units, opens canteen for American soldiers,
builds stables for the U.S. occupation army in Rizal. The 1902 census had shown that
San Mateo’s population had become stagnant since the decades of the Spanish Regime,
while that of Montalban had increased to almost as much as that of the municipality to
which it was only a barrio, Led by Eulogio, The town people lobbied with provincial and
central authorities to transform Montalban into a fourth-class municipality. The San
Mateo Officials naturally opposed the separation from the northern barrio which gave
them additional income, but in the end the leaders of Montalban prevailed. This change
occurred during the governorship of James F. Smith, a lawyer from California, who had
served as a Colonel of Volunteers at the outbreak of the Spanish-American war. He had
heard favorable comments about the 26-yer old Rodriguez from the townspeople, and the
deciding factor in Logio’s appointment as acting municipal President was his service to
the U.S. detachments in that province; he could therefore be classified as a capable and
loyal supporter of the American Regime. In November 1909 municipal elections were
again held throughout the archipelago, Rodriguez resigned as acting municipal president
to run for the same position. While in a temporary capacity, his first official act was to
renounce the salary of P50 a month and donate the sum to the municipal treasury so that
the town could hire an additional teacher for its primary school. This bit of showmanship
was a gesture that made him popular among his town. No public official in that province,
as far as town folks could remember, had ever voluntarily turned over his salary for an
extra teacher for their children. His followers came mainly from the younger elements in
the new municipality, and since their numbers were fast increasing the won handily over
his rival. For the next three local elections he won as president of Montalban, and his
triumph opened the eyes of the Democrata Party leaders to the fact that they had a winner
in him for a higher position. Rodriguez had done much for his town during the seven
years of his incumbency. Roads were repaired and new ones leading to the foothills were
started; a town hall, a public market, and a public plaza were built, together with other
improvements. He encouraged the people to plant orchards, to construct fishponds, and
to produce more rice and vegetables on their farms. He gave full support to
representatives of the Bureau of Plant and Animal Industry, and opened a puericulture
center to help families take proper care of their children. By the end of his second term
nobody in the opposition wanted to run against him, for they were certain Rodriguez was
unbeatable in their municipality. Civic leaders in the province now began to talk of him
as a good candidate for the governorship of Rizal Province. He died on December 16,
1964 due to cardiac arrest.
The new generation of the Rodriguez, Rizal must know how important Eulogio “Amang”
Rodriguez aside from they just heard his name through the name of school, hospital and any
establishments that used his name especially the name of this town Rodriguez, Rizal. As the
research goes by, the data gathered about him was proven, and its came from primary sources.
Therefore, Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez is a Prime Mover in town.
