Online National INMO Training Camp
20th – 24th February, 2021
Organized by the Department of Mathematics (PG &UG)
supported by
Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai
Introduction
The International Olympiad movement is aimed at bringing the most talented
secondary and higher secondary students of the world together in a friendly
competition of the highest level. The Olympiads are a celebration of the very
best in school level science and mathematics. The Olympiad programmes
globally have acted as national channels to enrich school educational
curriculum. The principal aim of the Mathematical Olympiad is to stimulate
love and enthusiasm for mathematics. It is a healthy competitive activity that
facilitates the learning of mathematical concepts, and the teaching of major
strategies for problem solving.
The Mathematical Olympiad Programme (MOP) in India is organized by the
Homi Bhabha Centre for science Education(HBCSE) on behalf of the National
Board for Higher Mathematics(NBHM) of the Department of Atomic
Energy(DAE), Government of India. The MOP in India consists of six stages
wherein the third stage is Indian National Mathematical Olympiad(INMO).
From each state, on the basis of their performance in Stage 2, up to 30 students
from classes 8-11 and up to 6 students from class 12 are selected for INMO.
Hence, the students selected from each state across India compete with one
another in INMO to make it to stage 4.
About the Training Camp
This training camp is organized for the students of Andhra Pradesh and
Telangana regions qualified to appear for INMO. It aims at providing an edge
to the students of the above mentioned regions by providing them intense
training spread across five days on the following topics: Algebra, Functional
Equations, Geometry, Number Theory, Combinatorics, Game Theory, and
Graph Theory. In this training camp students are exposed to a variety of
Olympiad problems and are also trained on various methods to solve the same.
Students must submit the worksheets given in each session the following day.
The participants are given ample resources in the form of complimentary
books, camp material and PowerPoint presentations. A unique feature is that
two former INMO awardees and an International medalist are a part of this
camp as instructors.
Objectives
To expose students to important mathematical concepts
To teach major strategies for problem solving
To develop mathematical flexibility in problem solving
To stimulate love and enthusiasm for mathematics
Outcomes
At the end of the training camp, students should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental mathematical concepts
Solve a variety of problems at various level of difficulty
Foster mathematical creativity and ingenuity
Describe the thrill of solving challenging problems in mathematics
