FODetect Features

FODetect is an automated foreign object debris detection system that can scan runway surfaces in less than 60 seconds to ensure aircraft safety during arrivals and departures. FODetect Features & Capabilities?

• FODetect is an automated foreign object debris detection system. Automatic and continuous
detection of FOD, during both day and night and in all weather conditions

• Scans runway surfaces in less than 60 seconds to ensure that all aircraft are clear for safe
arrivals and departures

• No blind spots, runway surfaces are scanned in full redundancy.

• Operators can analyze the imagery and manually operate the system sensor camera for visual
validation of the FOD, so that false FOD alarms are avoided

• Personnel sent to remove FOD are guided directly to the FOD location by a laser beam that
can be activated from the system sensor, all the way to the detected FOD

Each detection unit features an optical camera and radar combining the best characteristics of each
technology to provide high-quality detection at all times as well as inclement weather conditions,

FODetect uses advanced image processing algorithms and radar signals to automatically detect FODs
on the runway without any manual intervention

When an object is identified, an audio visual alarm is raised at the operator console showing the
FOD’s exact location and characteristics. The operator can then use the detection unit’s camera to
further investigate the object and decide if action is required. Clearing the object from the field has
never been so efficient. The operations vehicle can independently locate the object using FODetect’s
mobile operator console. In addition the unit can be efficiently directed to the exact location by GPS
coordinated and by a laser pinpoint indication generated from detection unit.

Every event is automatically documented in FODetect’s reporting system for further investigation. Alll
the video footage, images and other data for further investigation.

The researchers have come u pwith this proposal because as we all know Foreign object debris are a
threat to the aviation safety and we noticed that the WCC has still no FOD detectors present in the
airfield.
