Title:
Prologue
In our world alphas are the first born. Nine times out of ten the alpha is a man. What happens
when the next alpha of your pack is destined to be a woman? And that same woman is the
youngest in her family. All though she is the youngest she will be the one to lead her pack to
victory. She will lead them with an iron fist while treating them like her family. She will be the
greatest alpha the pack has ever seen. She is alpha.
Chapter 1
Aria’s POV
I will not stay up all night talking to Kevin again. He’s my mate and he loves to keep me up at
night. Sophie my best friend and dormmate was in my face yelling for me to get up. Ugh I hate
that this class is so early. When you’re a junior in college we have the opportunity to join combat
class where you are taught to defend yourself and the pack. We are taught how to fight in high
school but if you go to college you get two years to decide if you want to become a pack warrior.
If you take this class it’s the only thing you can do. Being the alpha’s granddaughter I don’t have
a choice in whether or not I become a warrior. It’s my duty.
The first two fighters were Ashton my twin brother and Luke. As twins we feel each other’s pain
except for when we inflict it on each other. So if I decide to drop kick him I won’t feel it. Luke
started out by giving Ashton a punch to the stomach which I was not prepared for. It knocked the
wind out of me and I almost fell. Sometimes I hate being a twin.
“You alright?” Sophie asked
“It just caught me off guard. I’m fine.”
As usual Luke won the fight. The last time Ashton beat him in a fight was when we were 5 and
Luke was sick. After an hour it was time for me to fight Ashton. Teachers will pin us against
each other for a laugh thinking we feel each other’s pain when we hit each other. He mind linked
me asking me to go easy on him. I smirked and said not a chance. I kicked his legs out from
under him and he fell. He got up to punch me and I dodged it. I punched him in the stomach and
was about to punch his face when Principal Johnson came out and said, “Aria and Ashton
Spencer your grandfather sent for you. There’s a car at the front of the school. Go now.”
“Yes sir.”
The last time grandpa sent for us at school we had gotten into fight in the chemistry lab and it
caught on fire. He was so mad at us that day. As punishment we had to clean the entire school.
Our older brother James watched us while laughing and grandpa made him help too. We had
gotten to my dorm so I told him we’d meet outside in ten. I threw on a light blue floral romper
with a pair of sandals. After grabbing my phone off the charger I was out the door.
I got outside before Ashton and that never happens. Suddenly I felt like I got hit over the head.
My eyes turned green, the color of my wolf’s eyes and I ran up to his room. A rogue was
standing over him about to slit his throat with his claws. I tackled him and mind linked Sophie to
send security. He scratched my cheek and I punched him in the nose. Security came five minutes
later to take him somewhere he would never return from. When security takes kids or rogues you
never see them again.
I was about to ask Ashton what happened when Principal Johnson walked up. After taking in the
mess that was now Ashton’s room he said, “You two should go talk to your grandfather.”
At the pack house guards and warriors were running around like they lost their heads. James was
standing by the door in a black suit tailored to fit his body perfectly. He’s brown skin like us and
is about 6ft. When James shows his emotions in public that’s how you know things are bad. As
he walked over to me he looked genuinely worried. Normally he wears a blank mask and you
never really know what goes on his head.
“I have been waiting for you guys for an hour.” He said, “What happened?”
“Ashton was attacked in his room. We should call the pack doctor he’s still in the car. He passed
out.”
James took him out the car and laid him in the couch. He called a guard to stay with him and we
went up to grandpa’s office. We were walking down the hall when suddenly the vent opened and
a rogue jumped out. How the hell did he get in there? He lunged for James, I pushed him out the
way and he cut my thigh with his claws. James pushed him against the wall and punched him in
the face. Then warriors came and took him outside. One stayed behind though, Kevin.
“That’s deep. Let me get some bandages.” He said then turned to James “You alright?”
“Yea I’m good. Worry about her.”
After wrapping my leg he picked me up and brought me to the office. Damn I love this man. He
placed me on the couch then left. As usual mom had a fit because Ashton and I got hurt. Like
we’re fine the cut on my face will heal by tomorrow morning and my leg in three days. When
Ashton wakes up tomorrow he’ll feel better. Yea she’s our mom she worries but sometimes it’s
too much. I do understand why she’s like this though. We all thought Sarah would heal.
“As you all know.” Grandpa started “Your father was next in line to be alpha but he didn’t want
the title. It was supposed to go to his eldest child when I died. That was Sarah. Because Sarah
died and the next alpha of this pack is supposed to be a woman, the title of alpha goes to Aria.”
Can we pause and back track here. I’m the youngest if I get the title that would mean I have
extremely bad like and all my siblings died. “Grandpa that has to be a mistake. I’m the youngest
I can’t be the next alpha.”
“There are exceptions to that and this is one of them. The next alpha of this pack is to be a
woman and sadly your sister is no longer with us so the next alpha is you.”
“After Sarah died James trained to be alpha.”
“He’ll be here to help you.”
Why didn’t grandpa say he would be here? He said James would be here not him.
“Grandpa…” I trailed off
“I was getting to that. I am dying I only have a month left. That’s if the stress from these rogues
doesn’t drive me into the ground first. Somehow the rogues got wind of my condition and want
to take out my successors so it’s easier to kill me so they can take over the pack.” He looked at
us expectantly for a response and we just stared at him. This is a lot to take in. “Aria go to school
and get your things and friends. This is the only place I know you’ll be safe.”
“I’ll go get Ashton.”
