What makes ethics so important?

Ethics was derived from the Greek word ethos which means character. Our character plays a very
important role in our life. It says a lot about who we are as a person. And ethics teach us on how human
persons ought to act that will correlate to the concept of right conduct and good life. Our ethics usually
depend on our society and that is why it is vital to always choose your environment. Most of us don’t
really have a choice. Some of us are forced to grow up in an environment that is not appropriate for us.
For example Person 1 lives in an abusive family while Person 2 lives in a very peaceful and happy home.
Person 1 works hard for the things that she wants while Person 2 get what she wants in an instant. That
is 2 different things in every situation, but can greatly affect one’s character development.

When we grow up and start to deal with different kinds of people every day, it is our Ethics that will help
us survive the real world. It is our character that will matter most. Our skills and knowledge that we
learned in school are weapons that we can use but having the right amount of character and discipline is
totally a different level of achievement. Not everyone is gifted with good character or ethics. Fortunately
these things can be acquired in school and can be learned through our experiences. To sum up my
answer, what makes ethics so important is ethics itself, and its power to radically change a person’s life
by simply understanding its context.
