FINESET-35: Latex Paint Antisettling Agent

FINESET-35 is an anti-settling agent used in latex paints to keep heavy pigments like iron oxides and barytes in suspension. It is added during the grinding stage, usually at 0.1-0.25% of pigment weight. FINESET-35 prevents hard settling of pigments that cannot be redispersed, maintaining proper pigment suspension, flow control, and corrosion resistance without affecting color or drying time. It is recommended for use in primers, enamels, and all types of paints.

FINESET-35

Surfactants modify the properties of the surface layer of one phase of a system in contact with another,
generally by lowering the interfacial tension. In Latex paints, they aid color development, adhesion, and
freeze-thaw resistance. The viscosity and storage stability of Latex paints are highly influenced by proper
choice and amount of surfactants used.

Surfactants tend to be temperamental, depending on the ingredients used with them. A surfactant that will
perform well in one type of formulation may not perform quite as well in another. In Latex paints, their main
functions are as pigment dispersions, wetting agents and as defoamers.

FINESET-35 (ANTISETTLING AGENT):

The use of FINESET-35 is particularly recommended for heavy pigments such as Red Lead, Barytes, Iron
oxides etc. As these pigments quickly form a hard deposit, which often cannot be brought back into
suspension. Because of its high surface activity, FINESET-35 keeps these pigments in suspension. If slight
sedimentation takes place, it can be brought back into suspension without any difficulty.

METHOD OF APPLICATION:
Due to it’s liquid form, the incorporation of FINESET-35 is very easy & it can be added to the paint at any
stage of manufacturing. Addition of FINESET-35 at the time of grinding is most effective.

QUANTITIES TO BE USED:
It depends on (I) Nature of Pigments, (ii) the type of binders used.
It is well known that the light-weight pigments require less amount of Antisettling Agent as compared to the
heavy pigments. In the same way if binders are used, which due to the size of their molecules hinder the
sedimentation of pigments to a greater extent, less amount of FINESET-35 is required. The right quantity
can only be determined by experiments.

APPLICATIONS:
FINESET-35 is highly suitable for all types of primers like surfacers, Red Oxide Primers, Zinc Chrome &
Red Lead Primers. Suggested use level is 0.5%. FINESET-35 is also effective in Ready-mix paints,
enamels, OBD, etc; and it is generally recommended for all types of paints. Suggested use level is 0.3% to
be added at the grinding stage for best effect. No effect on gloss is observed if not used in excess.

RECOMMENDED DOSAGES:
0.1% to 0.25% on the weight of pigments and extenders.

If required effect is not obtained then the quantity should be gradually increased.

For Iron Oxide Paints about 0.5% - 1% of FINESET-35 can be used.

CAUTION:
Over dose cause side effects like disturbance in flow or delay in drying etc;

ADVANTAGES IN USING FINESET-35:

Addition of FINESET-35 helps in:

• Providing effective and trouble free control of “Settling and “Sagging”.

• Proper Pigment Suspension
• Flow Control.
• Better Adhesion.
• Corrosion Resistance.
• Water Resistance.
• No effect on colour, gloss and drying time.

SPECIFICATIONS:

COMPOSITION : Balanced mixture of nonionic & anionic

APPEARANCE : Yellow liquid
SOLUBILITY : Soluble in water
pH OF WATER SOLUTION : 7.5 to 8.0
STABILITIES : Stable in range of 2 to 12. Stable in hard water.

STORAGE:
FINESET-35 is very stable if kept in closed containers. If exposed to free temperatures slight sedimentation
may take place. Storage at room temperature will re-dissolve the sedimentation.
