ACTIVITY #3
ACCOMODATIONS
NAME: EISIEN SEBASTIAN G. SANTOS
YEAR & SECTION: BSHM 1B
1. Base on your understanding, discuss the history of lodging industry. Cite the important
developments from each era. (40pts.) You may use the video that was posted on your channel
or look for another reference online.
There was a fire in the hearth, a warm dinner, and a roof over one's head in the beginning. The history
of the hotel industry starts here. Since our ancestors walked the planet 100,000 to 200,000 years ago,
people have been offering hospitality to thirsty travelers. Spas and bathhouses offered lodging facilities
and became popular destinations for those finding rest and relaxation some years back, in the era of
antiquity. Travelers were often accommodated in cloisters and abbeys throughout the medieval period.
During this period, an increasing number of inns and guesthouses were built along common trading
routes to provide food and accommodation for traders and their horses. These were not the hotels that
we are acquainted with today. Hotel chains like the "Ritz" didn't exist until hundreds of years later, and
they were a result of emerging industrial nations' increasing growth. The hotel sector, which has always
strived to satisfy the needs and demands of an evolving population, has evolved into a highly diverse
division of the economy. The hospitality sector now comprises a wide range of establishments, from
low-cost guesthouses to five-star luxury hotels. Hotel management techniques have had to respond to
these changes, and some may also argue that these strategies have crossed the threshold into research.
The growing academization of the hotel industry can be seen in the demand for and variety of subjects
that can be learned, such as hotel or hospitality management.
2. Identify and discuss the Classification of hotels base location, type of guest, and price. Give an
example of each accommodation. (50pts.)

3. Search online and give 10 most unique accommodations nowadays. (10pts.)
1. Treehouse: Treehotel, Sweden
Children have no qualms about sleeping in a treehouse, but we adults forget how much fun it is. At
Sweden's remarkable Treehotel, which consists of seven living pods suspended in tall pines up to 20 feet
above the forest floor, relive your childhood wonder. (Access is through a staircase, suspended bridge,
or electric stairwell.)
2. Undersea Accommodations: The Muraka, Maldives
The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island unveiled a two-story, three-bedroom undersea residence with a
sleek, domed configuration and 24-hour butler service in late 2018, adding to its reputation as an
exceptional place to stay. The Muraka's most remarkable aspect, however, is its complete, glassy
immersion in the mesmerizing ocean life of the Maldives.
3. Igloo: Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, Finland
Everyone has heard of Sweden's incredible Icehotel, as well as its frozen cousins: Quebec's Hotel de
Glace, Norway's Snowhotel Kirkenes, and Romania's Ice Hotel Romania—all artist-sculpted hotels that
appear in the winter and then vanish in the summer. If you want to see what it's like to sleep in a true
igloo, fly to Finland and stay at Kakslauttanen Arctic Lodge, which is 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
The majority of photos display its rows of glass-domed "igloos," which are worth visiting in and of
themselves, particularly for the unobstructed view of the aurora borealis.
4. Crane Hotel: The Yays Crane Apartment, Netherlands
What is the best way to dispose of an aged crane? Of default, convert it into a restaurant. A business
named Yays did just that with a retired Figee, commissioning Dutch artist Edward van Vliet to design a
glamorous interior for a three-story apartment with vertiginous views of the IJ River. The crane
operator's box has been restored, enabling tourists to hear his documented stories.
5. Lodge with Live Animals: Giraffe Manor, Kenya
The welcoming staff at the 12-room Giraffe Manor, one of Africa's Safari Collection's exclusive hotels,
instruct each guest how to feed giraffes. This is because the luxurious hotel, which was designed in 1932
at an elevation of almost 6,000 feet, is home to a herd of endangered Rothschild's giraffes that enjoy
extending their long necks through the big windows for a snack. Any guest room is filled with giraffe
food so that you can adequately feed your long-necked visitor when he or she arrives. (Book at Zambia's
Mfuwe Lodge for a similar encounter, but with elephants instead of giraffes.)
6. Hyper-Themed Hotel: Fantasyland Hotel, Canada
A strong theme is one that everybody likes. Although amusement parks are well-known for their use of
them, it's more difficult to find hotels that are fully themed. Edmonton's Fantasyland Hotel is located in
a shopping mall, but that isn't the most unusual feature. Fantasyland, as the name suggests, has 120
fantasy-themed rooms in which you can select your surroundings. Rooms that resemble a spacecraft, a
gas station, Polynesia, Rome, the Arabian desert, and a jail cell are available at this novelty hotel. There's
also a waterpark, thrill swings, miniature golf, and a bowling alley in the adjacent mall.
7. For Dog Lovers: Dog Bark Park Inn, Idaho
Idaho’s Dog Bark Park Inn is on virtually every list of the world’s most unique hotels for good reason: It’s
shaped like a dog. Also, everything inside the homey B&B is over-the-top dog-themed, including the
pillows, the bedrest, the books, the cookies, the board games and puzzles, the curtains, and the canine
chainsaw art (also sold in the on-site gift shop) handmade by the property’s welcoming mom-and-pop
owners. More than a quirky roadside attraction—though it’s that, too—”Sweet Willy,” built in 2003, is
made from wood, metal, and stucco. And yes, you can bring your own pup
8. Cave Hotel: Ottoman Cave Suites, Turkey
If you’ve ever had the craving to sleep in a cave, put Turkey’s magical Cappadocia region on your bucket
list. There, many of the unusual hotels are carved right into the land’s ancient stone. There are plenty of
cave hotels to choose from in Cappadocia, including the lovely Seraphim Cave Hotel, but Ottoman Cave
Suites, in a town called Goreme, is perhaps the most unique hotel of the bunch. Its dramatic, Ottoman-
themed rooms feature velour furnishings, Turkish art, and—the distinguishing feature—scalloped stone
walls and ceilings of cool, hollowed-out volcanic stone.
9. Eccentric Lodging: Helga’s Folly, Sri Lanka
Here’s a line from Helga’s Folly‘s website: “If expecting a regular hotel experience, best look elsewhere,
thank you.” This is an understatement. One of the world’s truly weird hotels, this property in Kandy, Sri
Lanka, is covered from top to bottom in psychedelic hand-painted art, skeletons, wax-dripped
candelabras, and a clutter of other creepy-cool decor. Staying here is guaranteed to make you feel like
you’ve stepped into a Tim Burton movie. If you’re not quite up for a full-on overnight, you can visit just
for dinner.
10. For Art Lovers: Angad Arts Hotel, Missouri
The recent opening of the Angad Arts Hotel in St. Louis is good news for anyone who’s ever wished they
could sleep in their favorite art museum. At the Angad, there’s striking artwork throughout, pop-up
performances, a musical playroom, and a refined David Burke eatery. You choose which color you want
your guest room to be saturated with: a bold red, green, yellow, or blue. Calling itself an “incubator for
the arts,” this unique hotel is in the city’s Grand Center Arts District, surrounded by more than 40
thriving arts venues.
