Job description of child psychologist
Child psychology is a specialized branch of developmental psychology.
Child psychology helps parents and teachers to understand their kids and best way
to support them.
5 main areas covered within child psychology are: development, milestones,
behavior, emotions and socialization.
Child psychologist assesses and treats children and adolescents with various
developmental, behavioural and mental problems along with developmental
pediatricians and pediatric psychiatrist.
They help children to cope with stresses like: parental separation, social problems in
family, school transition, behavioral problems. They are required to assess children
with variety of issues like neuro-developmental disability, learning disability, and
mental illness.
Child psychologist assesses child with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder), autism, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, and adjustment
disorders.
Child psychologist conducts tests for autism, ADHD, IQ test, Behavioral problems.
Educational details:
Child psychology is one of the psychology speciality, person should have basic
degree in psychology and masters in clinical child psychology. It is one of the sub-
speciality of clinical psychology.
In Gujarat, MS University, Gujarat University has Masters degree in this courses.
Skills needed: sensitivity, empathy, and genuine interest in the emotional problems
faced by children adolescents and their family members.
Ability to work as a multi-disciplinary team.
After masters degree internship or working experience as clinical child psychologist.
Job duties: Conduct psychological assessment and/ or tests for diagnostic purposes
(ADHD, autism, IQ test and behavioural test, developmental assessment etc)
Develop an individualized treatment plan for each child.

certain behaviours.
Recommend rehabilitation or intervention programmes to overcome addiction
