Things to know before visiting Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the fabulous places in the world. You should not miss it
at any cost. But before you pack your bags and head out to the islands,
here are the things you should know about visiting Hawaii.

1. Getting Around
Getting around Hawaii is easy. Most of the islands are connected
through regular inter-island flights, and there are several inter-
island car rentals available.
2. Diving and Snorkeling

Hawaii is home to some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world.
The fabled island of Maui is famous for its clear waters and coral reefs,
while Kauai has warm, tropical waters and impressive underwater
landscapes. If you’re looking for a little more adventure, try the North
Shore of Oahu vacation, where you’ll find several world-class surf
breaks.

3. Leave your footwear at the door

It is a Japanese practice that you will notice. All the people
remove their slippers at the door before entering the house.
Houses in Japan are few feet above the earth level. People
remove their footwear at the ground level and then move in the
house so that no germs or dirt are brought inside.
4. There are some swimming places
Visiting a beach without lifeguards or flags is a risky proposition.
The best way to ensure your safety is to know the risks and be
prepared.
5. Beware of riptides and undertows
Riptides and undertows are dangerous currents that can pull you
down, and there are places where these currents are known to be
particularly strong. There are no ocean beaches without lifeguards
in Hawaii, but even if you’re not swimming in the ocean, you may
still be pulled into the water when riptides and undertows are
present.
6. Must check the weather before going
Weather can change quickly in Hawaii, especially depending on
which part of the state you’re hiking in. The weather in the
mountains and on the coast is always unpredictable, which can
make planning more difficult. The best time of year to visit Hawaii
is between November and April because the weather is mild and
the air is not too humid. Be prepared for rain, wind, and the
chance of a thunderstorm. Sunscreen is important, but don’t
expect it to be as effective as in Florida or California.
7. You can’t surf everywhere
As a visitor, you need to respect the locals’ turf and keep in mind
that you’re here to enjoy the surf, not to take it away. First,
always ask for permission. Locals will usually be happy to let you
use their waves, but they might not want you to just drop in. If
you see a lifeguard, they are there to protect you, your board, and
the waves.
8. Don’t leave your valuables in the car
Don’t ever leave your valuables in the car while parked in the
parking at any cost.
9. Carry you bag
If you’re going to eat in Hawaii, bring your reusable bags.
Bring reusable, not paper, because paper can take up to a
thousand years to decompose. If you want to reduce your waste,
bring a reusable water bottle. Bring your cutlery. If you’re staying
in a resort, they’ll likely provide cutlery, but it’s still better to bring
your own.
10. Language
Before going to Hawaii learn few common Hawaii language words
so that you don’t face any problems there. You can download any
translation app or dictionary. Here are some of the common
words used there:
e komo mai means welcome
Kokua means help
Mahalo means thank you
Wiki means fast
