One of the reasons I would use this tool is an opener during the first week of school where
students are just receiving their laptops for the beginning of the year. In one of our writing units
students are taught plagiarism, which is mentioned in one of the videos. So, this would help them
to receive a media file to explain plagiarism and why it is not okay. Students will complete this
assignment as groups of 2 in case some words are harder to read as their reading some of these
webpages. Digital citizenship is taught to all elementary students who are given forms of
technology in school. The pros of this WebQuest are that students can work independently or
with a partner, given their reading levels. The con of this assignment is for my struggling readers
who may not do so well when it is time to read the passages. I will have to mentor/tutor them
during certain parts of the assignment. The take-away for the students would be that they have
more knowledge about how to be a good digital citizen while on the internet. The WebQuest has
a balance of technology and engagement with the reading passages as well as the videos included
in this activity. In the future, this WebQuest will probably need some upgrades as the internet is
always evolving.
