PLATE 300 Proposed Retreat House Site Development Plan:: PROBLEM Identification

This document presents a site development plan for a proposed retreat house. It identifies goals of enhancing social, spiritual, physical and emotional well-being as well as nature. Objectives include proper positioning of buildings and landscaping. Research inventoried the site's natural factors like slope, climate and vegetation as well as cultural factors such as linkages, zoning and demographics. Analysis strengthened goals and identified site potentials and limitations. Concepts were then generated, alternatives selected and evaluated against criteria to fulfill the original goals.

Analysis
 the planner strengthens the preliminary goals, objectives and priorities
 At this point, it is clear what the site potentials and limitations are and what activities and
facilities and intended use will require
 Based on the proposed use, observations and conclusions drawn from the site inventory
becomes site analysis

Synthesis

 Until this point, the major effort has been to develop a solid base of the site and the use
information. As the information is collected and analyzed, the planner may develop conceptual
approaches to the plan
 Ideas that occurred early on should be recorded and brought forward for a closer look at this
time.
 This is the point in the process when concept development is the focus of the planning effort
where the planner attempts to find the best fit among the site, structure and use; when the
character and quality of the “place” is explored and developed
 Generating alternative concepts is often facilitated by working with graphic site analysis and
schematic two-dimensional functional diagrams.

Selection

 As major issues of the site, function, and aesthetics are resolved, the planner must evaluate and
select the best alternatives for a more detailed study
 The evaluation of each alternative is based on how well it fulfils the criteria and goals set forth
earlier in the analysis phase
