STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
“AI takeover” is the commonly heard word in today’s world, and thanks to the movies like
“Terminator” and news like “Facebook AI bots' shutdown after they communicated in their
own language” most people consider AI leading to disasters in the near future. AI is like a
version of human brain and many ruminate that companies like Google, Facebook have
already developed such effective systems but to the contrary many companies are remotely
close to such milestones. AI supposedly doesn’t mean an imitation of human rather a
system which can act on its own, like humans from its previous encounters and experiences.
A machine or a system which can simply and differentiate between dogs and cats is using AI.
My intent is to gap this bridge of misunderstanding and introduce AI in all sectors and make
use of the untapped potential, which is being wasted on menial and mundane jobs.
I have managed to score a decent GPA of 7.24 out of 10, and I have always been exploring
technologies by not just reading about them, but instead getting my hands dirty through
practical exposure. I have won 3rd prize in a national level hackathon called IGNITE for
successfully implementing object classification using “TensorFlow”. I have also won 1st prize
for my presentation on topic “AI the future” conducted by LBRCE in my third year of UG. My
final year project has been a wonderful experience where I tried to combine Cyber Security
with AI to identify systems with bugs and loopholes within the given network using
predictive analysis.
Apart from the above-mentioned learnings and achievements, I’ve also worked for a start-
up which essentially built a product to detect if a person driving a car is asleep, and if the
driver is asleep the car would stop on its own preventing any accidents from taking place. I
along with my fellow mate worked on this by training a model with the help of “OpenCV” to
detect whether the driver is sleeping or not and thereafter, we implemented this model
using “raspberry pi” following which our team was invited to Boston for further
presentation.
I bagged my first corporate job as a System Engineer Specialist at Infosys in 2019. The
recruitment procedure comprised of 3 steps. It began with HackwithInfy, a coding
hackathon which was conducted nationwide and the top 300 made it to the finals. In my
undertaking, I was trained in Big Data. Towards the end of training, we were asked to take
up a project and apply our learnings. Consequently, I had taken up the role of a team leader
to achieve our goals within the given timeframe. By the end of this, I realised the fact that
when you do not have any doors to opt from, you got to pave your own pathway.
In addition to the academic curriculum, I actively took part in the extracurricular activities as
I believe that it is equally important for the overall development of an individual. I have
worked for an NGO for a duration of 3 months during my freshmen year where I assisted
and guided kids involving orphans and the ones coming from underprivileged background.
Their stories inspired me to contribute more towards the growth and development of the
society. I have also worked as a TEDx event coordinator serving as the head of publicity
team organised at our university. In the course of event management, I built a strong
network of individuals who worked together, brought their creative cells on ground, and
contributed significantly to the event’s success through proper planning and execution.
The thing in my mind which affected me the most is genetic diseases and disorders. As a kid,
I was fond of sweets, ice creams, and milkshakes but could not consume them, reason
being, my maternal family suffered through diabetes which is a hereditary disease. Growing
up, I always had an intent to arrive at a solution by working on this problem. After studying
about the use cases of AI, I tried to use “Artificial Intelligence” in DNA processing. I aim to
build a Neural Network that can predict the possible outcomes and traits of new-born
babies by collecting and processing their parent’s DNA. During my undergraduate, I spent
my time building different unique models with machine learning libraries and existing
trained models. I never let this thought out of my mind, and the possible potential results it
could achieve.
I believe that Masters is just what I need to learn more, grow more and achieve my future
endeavours. An opportunity to do Masters in Computer Science at University of South
Florida will help me gain all the necessary skills to create broader solutions that will, assist
and improve people’s lives. To me, being able to create an impact, is exactly what education
and even life itself, have always been about. I am confident that these two years at your
University will prominently help me to explore, learn and build knowledge, skills that lead
me to the achieve my career goals in impacting & modernizing the society. I also want to
further continue my research by pursuing PHD and explore all possible ways to implement
AI in every field like Arts, Science, Automation, IOT, Materials etc and make it a part of our
daily life.
I am very grateful to the university for their consideration.
