GRADE/SECTION: VI- Jasmine DATE : July 15, 2019 TIME: 9:00-9:50 AM

Content Standard Learners demonstrate understanding of different technique to

separate mixtures. (CG page 82)
Performance The learners should be able to separate desired materials from
Standards common and local products. (CG page 82)
Learning Enumerate techniques in separating mixtures such as filtering
Competencies (CG page 82) (S6FE-III d-f-2)
I. LESSON a. Describe how to separate mixtures through filtration.
OBJECTIVES ( Observing, Separating, Describing, Communicating)
b. Identify the materials used in filtering mixtures.
c. Be cautious in using science equipment or apparatuses.

II. Subject Matter Separating Mixtures - FILTRATION

III. Learning A. References:
Resources 1. Teacher’s Guide 6
2. Learners’ Material – page 90-93
3. Texbook – page 90-93

B. Other Learning Resource Materials:

Real objects, meta cards, activity cards, pictures, puzzle, filter,
funnel, iron stand, beaker and erlenmeyer flask

C. Process Skills: observing, separating, describing, and

Communicating
D. Values Integration: English, Health and ESP

Valuing: Be careful in using different apparatuses

IV. Procedure
A. Reviewing Activate prior knowledge of pupils by playing PASS THE BALL. Let the
previous lesson and students identify what ways of separating mixtures are showed in the
presenting the new following pictures
lesson
B. Establishing a Solving the puzzle. (Arrange the puzzle to form the picture.)
purpose for the
lesson

What have you seen in the puzzle? What pictures are these?

So, this morning we are going to study about separating mixtures

through filtration.
C. Presenting Show pictures of different apparatus to be used in the lesson.
examples/ instances
of the new lesson

Present the meaning of the difficult words through context clue.

1. filter – an apparatus containing a filter medium.
2. filter medium- example filter paper or cloth.
3. residue- a usual small amount of something that remain after a
Process has been completed or a thing has been removed.
4. filtrate- something that remain after a process has been
completed or a thing has been removed.

D. Discussing new
concepts and Activity 1 –“ I FILTER YOU “
practicing new skills Group the pupils.
#1 1. Set the norms/rubrics in performing the activities.
2. Distribute the activity card.
3. Gather the materials.
4. Perform the activities.
5. Supervise the pupils while performing the activity.
6. Reporting of group outputs
7. Analysis and abstraction of the activity results.
Activity- Group 1

I. Title: Separating mixture through filtering.

II. Materials: mixture of mud and water, filter paper,
beaker & funnel
III. Procedure:
1. Check the apparatus to be used.
2. Filter the mixture using the filter paper.
IV. Questions:
1. What happened to the muddy water after filtering?
2. Are there remains of solid on the filter paper?
What the water where did it go?

Activity- Group 2

I. Title: Separating mixture through filtering.

II. Materials: mixture of sugar and water, filter paper,
beaker & funnel
III. Procedure:
1. Check the apparatus to be used.
2. Filter the mixture using the filter paper.
IV. Questions:
1. What happened to the mixture of sugar and water
after filtering?
2. Are there remains of solid on the filter paper?
What the water where did it go?

Activity- Group 3

I. Title: Separating mixture through filtering.

II. Materials: mixture of flour and water, filter paper,
beaker & funnel
III. Procedure:
1. Check the apparatus to be used.
2. Filter the mixture using the filter paper.
IV. Questions:
1. What happened to the mixture of flour and water
after filtering?
2. Are there remains of solid on the filter paper?
What the water where did it go?

Explanation
1. Each group will present their data and discuss about their work
done.
2. Analysis and discussion of pupils answer.
3. The teacher ask question to develop critical thinking.
- How did you feel after doing the activity?
4. Filtration is the process of separating solid substances from a
liquid through the use of a filter paper or any cloth that can be used
as a filtering medium. These soli residues are trapped by the filter
paper or cloth, which allow the liquid substances to pass through the
process.

E. Discussing new
concepts and Activity 2 – Video Clip
practicing new skills
#2 For more info about filtration, let’s watch this video clip.
https//www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOS71cjCNWs
- What will you do while viewing the video?

The teacher will present a video showing the proper use of apparatus
in filtering.

Value Infusion:
Did you use the apparatus properly and with care?
How can we take good care the apparatus/equipment?

F. Developing Questions:
Mastery What are the apparatuses to be used in filtering mixtures?
What is the filter medium that we used in our activity?

G. Finding practical Have you seen a transfer of energy from one to another?
applications of
concepts and skills in Picture of water filtration
daily living

The teacher will give inputs on the health issue regarding using filters
in our faucet at home.

H. Making Questions:
generalizations and
abstractions about What do you mean by filtration?
the lesson How do you describe filtration as one of the technique in separating
mixture?

I. Evaluating learning Identify the following materials used in filtering mixtures.

1. 2.
