Culture Autobiography

My cultural background has been partly a mystery for my entire life. My mother is a mix of

Native American and Irish descent. My father was adopted as a baby and his adoption was

closed. My father’s adoptive father is of Irish descent so my last name is Irish. We recently

learned that my father is of Hispanic descent. We do not have any specific information since his

adoption records are sealed but it was very interesting to learn.

I was born and raised here in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have one sibling that has the same parent as

me and I have many other half siblings. I was raised in a Christian faith-based home by my

single mother. My mother instilled the value of hard work and determination in m and my sisters.

My parents had many friends that were of different cultures so I had a lot of exposure to many

different backgrounds. My older half-sisters are half Hungarian. I was fortunate to spend time

with their Hungarian grandparents often. I was taught Hungarian words and ate Hungarian food

often.

My mother also married a man who is Samoan. I learned a lot about their culture and ate Samoan

food often in my home. My oldest sister married a man who is Puerto Rican and my other sister

married a man who is Mexican. Our family spends a lot of time with my brother in laws families.

We eat a lot of traditional Mexican food in my home and my mother and sister also speak

Spanish. I am grateful for the exposure I have had growing up to these different cultural

backgrounds.
