Reflection – ask yourself:

[1A] Before we start, it will be good to take stock of past experience: have I ever been in a leadership
role before?
If yes, when did it happen and what was/were the roles? What did I have to do as the leader then?
If no, do I consider leadership to be a challenge that I want to take up, or something to be avoid
altogether?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes i had to lead a team of councillors to prepare for events

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1B] The 5C’s representing the key attributes of leadership are: Character, Civic-mindedness,
Competence, Creativity and Communication.
Am I able to associate some leadership qualities to each of the 5Cs?

e.g. Competence - I see that being able to manage a group of people to accomplish tasks together is a
competence required of a leader.

List as many of such associations as I can think of.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Character- strong willed
civic-mindedness - good at making sound decisions
competence- hardworking

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1C] The girl in the video prefers to be a follower.

Am I like her, more comfortable to stick to the role of a follower?
Or do I actually prefer to lead?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
if its on a subject that i am not familiar with i would prefer to take the lead

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1D] Which type of follower do I see myself as?
Why do I think so?

If I am not yet an effective follower, what aspect needs improvement?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I see myself as an active follower that will do my best to contribute

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1E] Do I identify with the feeling of the girl in the video – thinking that leadership is too big a
challenge for myself?
Are some of the reasons she mentioned similar to mine, or do I have some other reasons for not
wanting to take up the challenge? What are these?
Or unlike her, I am the type who would like to take up leadership challenges, or enjoy being a leader?
If so, how are my thoughts different from hers regarding leadership? What motivates me to it?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I do not think that leadership is too big of a challenge

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1F] Did my view of "leadership" match some of what was mentioned in the video?
If so, what are those?
The video also refuted some of the statements which I agreed/disagreed with, at the beginning of this
segment. Was I surprised? If so, in what ways?

Now that I have learnt about what leadership really means, how does it affect my aspiration (or lack
of) towards leadership?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes it did

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1G] Have I ever met two (or more) effective leaders who led with different styles?
If yes, in what way were they different from each other's way of doing things?
If no, am I able to think of at least one leader whom I respect, and give a brief description of his/her
way of leading?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes i have met different types of leaders, they will need to come to a comprimise

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1H] Now that I have learnt about the different leadership styles, am I able to associate the respective
styles to the few leaders that I have thought about in the previous reflection?

Is there one style that I feel that I am naturally prone to adopt, or have already been practising?
Which are they and why?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am able to associate with some styles of leaders

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1I] What is my take on personality profiling before viewing the video?

Was I surprised that one need not have a certain type of personality to be a good leader?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This information is not surprising

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1J] Which personality group was I classified into under the MBTI scheme?

Does my personality profiling reflect how I see myself as? In what ways does it/does it not?
Which aspect(s) of my personality may I "tone down" and under what kinds of situations?
Which aspect(s) of my personality may I "play up" and under what kinds of situations?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
My strong-willedness
My extrovertedness

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1K] Do I see myself as being able to empathise with others easily?
If yes, which type of empathy do I seem to be exhibiting?
If no, what is preventing me from empathising with others?
What can I do to remind myself of the need for empathy when interacting with others?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am able to empathise with people easily

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1L] Did I have the same misconception (as the girl in the video) that Team Building = Team
Forming?
What do I think Team Building entails, beyond Team Forming?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes i did

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1M] Team building cannot be learnt on paper, simply based on head knowledge.
As a start, in my curricular courses that involve team work, in what way may I use the information
regarding Team Building to enhance our team outcome over time?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
i agree

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1N] In the previous context of curricular courses involving team work, there may not be a clear
leader, although I may use the knowledge about Team Building to identify challenge points to address
as my team works together.
As another opportunity to practise Team Building, I can look for NTU student organisations with
activities that I enjoy, to work with others, and in teams (e.g., as members of the subcommittee or in
special projects).

Looking at the ways in which I can be involved at the following URL:

https://www.ntu.edu.sg/life-at-ntu/student-life/clubs-groups-societies

The ones (activities or organisations) that I would like to consider getting involved in are:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
CCA

Reflection – ask yourself:

[1O] Which of the SDGs did I feel strongly about and would like to address as priority? Why and in
what ways?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Resilience
