One-Shot Calibration Guidance

The document provides guidance on one-shot calibration and conventional calibration for Careray digital medical devices. One-shot calibration allows users to complete the calibration process with one x-ray image acquisition, making it faster than conventional calibration which requires acquiring multiple images. The document outlines the step-by-step process for performing one-shot calibration and conventional calibration and notes that conventional calibration should be used if one-shot calibration is unsuccessful or results are not satisfactory. Users are advised to contact Careray for support if they encounter issues with the calibration processes.

One-Shot Calibration Guidance

One-shot calibration is a new feature shipped with SDK 4.5.0 and versions onward. With this
feature turned on in the configuration file, users can walk through the otherwise
time-consuming and tedious calibration process by acquiring only one RAD image, hence the
name.
The diagram on the right shows a
high-level calibration workflow.
One-shot calibration is a standalone
calibration process. Just in case
one-shot calibration cannot be
launched (i.e., one sees a grayed out
"One Shot Calibration" button after
clicking "Calibration" on the menu
bar in NDT 3.5.5) or it stucks in the
result checking or verifying phrase,
as a backup plan, perform
conventional calibration instead.
Compared with one-shot calibration,
the conventional calibration is rather
time-consuming. The next two
sections provide step-by-step
guidance of the one-shot calibration
and conventional calibration.

Section 1: One-shot calibration

Step 1: Launch NDT 3.5.5 shipped with SDK 4.5.0, navigate to "Detector" tab -> "Sync Mode",
select "External Sync" or "Manual Sync", and click "OK".

Step 2: Click "Calibration" on the menu bar, and then "One Shot Calibration" to open the
dialog window. Click the "Start" button in the dialog window. The workflow
automatically obtains an offset image in the background, and then prompts user to
acquire a RAD image.

Step 3: NDT then generates calibration files and checks the results. If the result is OK, click
"Verify" to launch an optional verification workflow (see Step 4 below), or click "End"
to wrap up one-shot calibration.

Otherwise, if the result is not satisfactory, perform conventional calibration instead

(refer to Section 2).

Step 4: Follow the prompts to take two RAD images using, respectively, 1/4 and 3/2 of the

mAs value used for the RAD image acquisition in Step 2. The results will be graded by
NDT.
Step 5: NDT displays the grade. If the grade is acceptable, click the "Close" button to finish up
the one-shot calibration process. Otherwise, perform conventional calibration
instead (refer to Section 2).

Section 2: Conventional calibration

Step 1: Navigate to "Calibration" -> "Conventional Calibration" -> "Offset Calibration ". Click
the "Start" button, and wait for the offset calibration to complete. Click "Gain
Calibration" button at the end of the process to direct the workflow to Step 2. (An
alternative way to launch gain calibration is by navigating to "Calibration" ->
"Conventional Calibration" -> "Gain Calibration".)

Step 2: Take a series of RAD images with the exposure settings properly configured to meet
the range requirements imposed on the mean grayscale value of the resulting RAD
images.

Step 3: At the end of the gain calibration process, users can select one of the following
options to proceed:
 move forward to verifying the correction result by clicking the "Verify" button.
The workflow is the same as that detailed in Steps 4 and 5 in Section 1;
 upload a copy of the calibration files to detector by clicking " Upload CAL File ";
 finish up the calibration by clicking "Close".

If you encounter any trouble walking through the calibration process, please feel free
to contact Careray technical support professionals.
