You are on page 1/ 8

Good morning kids, I’m teacher kryzel your math teacher for today.

Were here this

morning to talk to you about multiplication and division of fractions.
So let us start our discussion with multiplication of fractions.

Page 2:
At the end of the lesson, you should be able to first,
 visualize multiplication of fractions using models
 multiply simple fractions, whole numbers and mixed numbers and:
 solve word problems involving multiplication without or with addition or
subtraction of fractions and whole numbers using appropriate problem-solving
strategies and tools.
Page 3:
I have here a scenario where in related sa topic nating multiplication of fractions.
One recipe of maja blanca needs 2 ½ cups of milk. If Angelica Lian will make 5 recipes of
maja blanca, how many milk will she need?

Page 4:
we can illustrate the problem as follows: based on the illustration, how many wholes and
halves do we have in all? Yes, we have 10 wholes and 5 halves which are equal to 12 and ½.
So paano natin ito nakuha?

Page 5:
We can easily solve this by multiplying the fractions. That is 2 ½ x 5. So we have the given
2 1/2 x 5 so meron tayong mixed number which is yung 2 ½ so ang gagawin natin is we
need to transform it into an improper fraction. In converting a mixed number to an
improper fraction you need to multiply and add, so only we need to do is multiply this 2x2
is equal to 4 then add 1 so we have 5 our numerator is 5 and the yung denominator natin is
copy lang natin so we have 5/2. So kids meron tayong whole number dito which is 5 so
anong gagawin natin ? wala siyang denominator, so express lang natin yung whole number
as a fraction with a denominator of 1 so we have 5/1. So we have 5/2 x 5/1. So dito ang
gagawin natin is imultiply lang, so first multiply the numerator which is 5x5 is equal to 25
and then next step is multiply the denominator we have 2x1 is equal to 2 so we have the
answer 25/2 or 12 ½ . So paano natin nakuha yung 12 1/2. So ganito yan kids divide the
numerator of 25 and denominator of 2, 25 divided by 2 is equal to 12 then multiply by 2 is
equal to 24 and then 25-24 is equal to 1. So our whole number here is yung quotient natin
which 12 and yung numerator is 1 then our denominator is 2 so we have the final answer
25/2 or 12 ½ .
Remember kids that in multiplying fractions we, multiply the numerators and the
denominators and express the answer in simplest form. In multiplying mixed numbers,
express the mixed numbers as an improper fraction and follow the same rule. Meanwhile,
whole numbers have denominators of 1.

Page 7:
I have here one example, Carmela planted 3/5 of her backyard with vegetables. ¼ of the
area of vegetables is squash. What fraction of backyard is planted with squash?

We have the given 3/5 and ¼ so what is the first thing we need to do? We need to? Yes
multiply the numerators so we have 3x1 is equal to 3 and then na next step multiply the
denominator we have 5x4 we got the answer of 20 therefore carmela planted 3/20 of her
backyard with squash. Did you get it kids?

Page 9:
so now let us proceed to multiplying fraction by fraction. We have the given of ½ and 3/5
so who want to try? Yes ate Maxine…..

Ate Maxine got the correct answer so paano nakuha ni ate Maxine yun? She follows the step
of multiplying a fraction so the first step is multiplying the numerator 1x3 is equal to 3 and
the next step is multiplying the denominator 2x5 is equal to 10. Kids if you are done
multiplying the numerator and denominator you need to check whether that fraction is in a
lowest term so for now our product is already in the lowest term so this is the final answer
which ate Maxine and yung iba is nakuha yung tamang sagot. Naintindihan naman itong
multiplying a fraction by a fraction. That’s great
Page 10:
So now let us proceed to multiplying a fraction by a whole number.
We have here a given of 9 x 3/4. So what we are going to do? Who wants to try? Yes ate aira
.. then yung iba mag solve din comment niyo na lang final answer niyo then after that
ipapakita ko how to solve a fraction with a whole number.
Always remember kids kapag merong whole number na given, what should we do? Express
the whole number as a fraction with a denominator of 1. So we have 9/1 x ¾ . Ano yung
first step na gagawin natin? We need to multiply? Numerator to numerator so 9x3 = 27 and
then second step is multiplying the denominator so 1x4 we got 4, so the answer is 27/4
ayan na ba final answer? Yes, so lagi nating tatandaan na in any operation of fractions
express natin yung answer natin in mixed number kapag siya ay improper fraction so how?
Ang gagawin natin ay gawin nating mixed number so we need to divide the numerator and
denominator 27 divided by 4. So ilan bang 4 ang meron sa 27? So, we have 6, then 6x4 is 24
next 27 minus 24 we have 3. So alam naman na natin kung ano yung numerator
denominator, so yung 6 is the whole number while 3 is our numerator and the
denominator is 4 so got the answer 6 3/4. Nakuha ba kids? clear ba sainyo yung
multiplying the fractions by a whole number? Very good

Page 11:
so now let us proceed to multiplying mixed numbers. We need to convert each mixed
number to improper fraction so ang step natin is multiply and add, copy lang natin yung
denominator here so now multiply 2x4 is 8 plus 1 is we got the numerator of 9. The same
lang yung process dito copy the denominator then multiply 3x2 is 6 plus 1 so we have 7.
Now we have 9/4 and 7/2. Multiply the numerator to numerator so 9x7 is 63 so our
numerator is 63 then next multiply denominator to denominator 4x2 is 8, our denominator
is 8 so we got 63/8. And then again convert natin sa mixed number since isa siyang
improper fraction so 63 divided by 8 is 7, then multiply by 8 7x8 is 56 and then minus, 63-
63 is 7. So we have the final answer 7 3/8. Nakuha ba kids? comment yah if clear sainyo.
Comment nah kapag hindi. Ayan lahat kayo naiintindihan.

Page 12:
If you really understand our discussion about multiplication of fractions. Lets try this one
solve this one and then kapag natapos na kayo just open your mic and say done. Then
eexplain niyo kay teacher kung paano niyo nakuha yung sgaot. Is that clear? I will give u 2
minutes to answer since madali lang tong una ok.

“ma’am our given is 2/3 of 1/2. so, I got the answer 2/6 by first multiplying the
numerator of 2x1 is 2 and then multiplying the denominator of 3x2 is 6 so I got the
answer of 2/6. “
So, kids pwede natin I simplest to lowest terms itong 2/6 only need to do is find the
Greatest common fraction of numerator and denominator so we the GCF of 2, divide both
the numerator and denominator by the GCF so 2 divided by 2 is equal to 1 and 6 divided by
2 is equal to 3 therefore 2/6 simplified to lowest terms in 1/3. Did you get it kids?
Page 14:
We the given 1/6 x 72 so meron tayong whole numbers which is 72, ano ng gagawin natin
kapag merong whole number? We need to express the whole number as a fraction with a
denominator of 1. Therefor we have 1/6 72/1, now imultiply natin yung numerator 1x 72
is equal to 72 and then the denominator 6x1 is equal to 6. We need to express the answer in
simplest form so divide natin yung 72 and 6, 72 divided by 6 is equal to 12 them 12 x 6 is
72, then minus 72-72 is equal to zero. We have the answer 12 which is a whole number.
Or meron pa tayong ibang method to lowest term find the GCF of numerator and
denominator, we have the GCF of 6 then divide both numerator and denominator by the
GCD, 72 divided by 6 is 12 the 6 divided by 6 is 1 therefore, 72/6 simplified to lowest terms
is 12/1.

Page 15:
Next, we have the given 5/6 x 8. In conventional way on how to do it, we have 5/6 x 8
remember kids kapag meron kayong nakitang whole number automatic meron siyang
invisible 1 sa denominator, then multiply natin yung 5x8 that will give you 40 then 6 x 1
that will give you 6 and then simplifying this numbers, the gcf is 2 so we will be dividing the
numerator and denominator by 2, 40 divided by 2 is 20, 20 is our numerator and 6 divided
by 2 is 3, our denominator is 3 so we have 20/3. Kids it is possible na pwedeng gawing mix
numbers itong sagot natin? Yess, so how? only need to do is divide 20 by 3, 20 divided by 3
that is 3, 6 x 3 that will give you 18 subtract it 20-18 is 2 so our mixed number is 6 2/3. So
either the 2 pwede nating sagot 20/3 or 6 2/third. Paano naman yung ibang way para mas
mabilis yung pag sosolve natin in multiplying numbers or fractions, we have 5/6 we all
know that divisible by 2 ang 6 and 8 so meron silang gcf na 2 so we can rewrite it as 5/ 3 x
2 x 4 x 2/ 1 as you can see meron tayong mag kapares na number which is yung 2 so we
need to cancel out 2. And then multiply yung reaming numbers sa numerator and
denominator 5 x4 that is 20 then 3 x 1 that will give you 3 that is the answer we have 20/3.
Nakukuha ba kids?

Page 16:
For the last given number, 5/6 x ¾ . I will show you different solutions you have 5/6 x ¾ so
we need first multiply the numerator 5 x 3 is 15 and then the denominator 6 x 4 is 24 so we
got 15/24. Any operations of fractions you need to maintain or consider kung yung sagot
ko ba ay tama or ito na ba yung final answer ko, naka lowest terms na sila. So if no you need
to think if meron ba silang common factor of gcf, we have 15/24 their gcf is 3 so how to
simplify ito? We have 15/24 and since the gcf is 3 you will be dividing the numerator and
denominator by 3 so 15 divided by 3 is 5 and 24 divided by 3 so the final answer is 5/8. I
hope clear yung aking explanation in multiplying those 2 fractions. In this kind of example I
will show you another way on how to do it kasi diba kung mapapansin niyo nag simplify pa
tayo ng fractions what if gumamit tayo ng cancellation method? You have 5 yung 6 natin
pwede natin irewrite as 3 x 2 and yung next fraction it can be written as 3 x 4 in this way
pwede natin I cancel out yung mag kaparehas which is yung 3 so multiplying this numbers
5 x 1 is 5 and then 2 x 4 is 8 so we got 5/8. Nakuha ba kids?

DIVISION OF FRACTIONS
Page 2:
At the end of the lesson, you should be able to first,
• visualize division of fractions
• divide simple fractions, whole numbers and mixed numbers
• solve word problems involving division without or with any of the other
operations of fractions and whole numbers using appropriate problem
solving strategies and tools.
Now we will talk about division of fractions so let us start.

Page 3:
Jose brought home 2 of banana cake. He sliced them into fourths. How many pieces did jose
slice the cake into?
Page 4:
We have here the number of pieces of cake = 2 divided by ¼
Based on the illustration below we can see that: Number of quarters or fourths in 1 cake=4
Number of quarters or fourths in 2 cakes= 2 x 4
Page 5:
We have here the given 2 divided by ¼ so how we are going to do? So first copy the the
whole number which is 2 and then express the whole number as a fraction with a
denominator of. Therefor we have a fraction of 2/1 then next we need to change this
operation division symbol to multiplication. 2/1 x then next is flip this fraction so yung
numerator of 1 mapupunta sa baba then yung denominator of 4 mapupunta sa taas so now
we have here the given og 2/1 x 4/1. And then the next step do u still remember tha steps
of multiplication of fractions? Yes the first one is multiplying the numerator and then
multiplying the denominator. So 2 x 4 is 8, our numerator is 8 and 1 x 1 is 1 so our
denominator is 1 we have 8/1. Then next divide 8 by 1 so we got 8 divided by 1 is equal to
8. We can say that dividing by ¼ is the same as multiplying by 4, therefor jose sliced the
cake into 8 pieces. Did you get it kids?
Page 6:
Now kids who want to try this one. We have the given of 10 divided by 5/6?
“ ate aira you want try this one?”
So habang nag sosolve si ate aira kids try to solve din and then comment niyo na lang
answer niyo sa comment section.
“Teacher nakuha ko pong sagot is 60/ 5 or 12 po” paano po yun nakuha ate aira can you
explain to them and then show your solution ate ai. “ Teacher yung whole number pong
10 is kinopy ko then express the whole number as fraction with a denominator of 1
of so we have 10/1 and then yung division symbol po pinalitan ko po ng
multiplication symbol, then next po is this fraction po is I flip lang po so magiging
6/5 after po niyan pwede na po tayong mag proceed by multiplying numerators and
denominators so 10 x 6 is 60 then 5 x 1 is 5 so I got the answer 60/5 kaya ko naman
po nakuha yung 12 pinag divide ko lang po sila 60 divided by 5 is equal to 12 so ayan
po answer ko.

Page 7:
In dividing fractions kids, you need to remember yung KCF which means Keep-Change-Flip
We have here the examples on how to divide fractions and I want you to keep in mind that
you need to Keep change and flip.

Page 8:
We have here 3/5 divided by 3/2 how are we going to apply Keep change and flip. Yung
keep natin means you need to keep or copy the first fraction so we have 3/5 and yung
change naman you need to change this operation division symbol to multiplication 3/5 x,
yung flipo naman natin ay you need to flip this fraction like this 3/2 it means you need to
find the reciprocal of this fraction, again keep that in mind that you need to keep change
and flip so that you can do the process of dividing the fractions. As you can see yung
knowledge natin about multiplication of fractions ay magagamit natin dito, so in
multiplying fractions you need to multiply the numerators and the denominators. So 3 x3
that will give u 9 and 5 x 2 is 10. So the final answer for our first example is 9/10.
Page 9:
Dividing mixed numbers, we will talk about dividing mixed numbers I have prepared two
different examples for you to familiarize the process on how to divide mixed numbers.

When you say mixed numbers it is the combination of a whole numbers and a fraction ito
yung mga example nating mixed numbers we have here 4 divided by 1/6 and 2 divided by
2/3, anon ga ba yung process on how to solve or divide a mixed numbers? The first thing
we need to do is we need to transpose or convert this mixed number into a improper
fraction, Teacher paano po yan gawin?. So kids yung step lang nito is very simple kaya
making kayong mabuti. In converting you need to multiply and add, multiply your
denominator and whole number same process diba sa multiplication of fractions. So 4 x 6
that will give you 25 and then yung product mag ka lang so 24 + 1 is 25 again paano natin
nakuha yun? Multiply your denominator with whole number then add your numerator. So
ngayon I copy niyo lang yung original denominator which is 6 and copy the operation
which is division. For the next mixed number ulitin lang natin yung process 3 x 2 is 6 plus 2
is 8 then copy the denominator of 3.

Now proceed na tayo sa pinaka step talaga ng ating dividing mixed numbers. Next step is
to copy the first fraction or the improper fractions we have 25/6 then you need to change
this operation to multiplication then next 8/3 kunin natin yung reciprocal, meaning mag
interchange in position yung numerator and denominator so it will be 3/8 as u can see,
since multiplication of fractions na yung process we need to follow the rules of multiplying
of frantions. You need to multiply the numerator to numerator and denominator to
denominator. As you can see meron tayong 25 x 3 so medyo malki yan at meron tayong 6 x
8 pwede naman nating paliitin yung numbers, so how? Observer 3 and 6 this 2 numbers
are divisible or meron silang factor na 3 meaning you can cancel it out this one, cancel natin
meron tayong 1 then cancel 6 we have 2 kasi meron tayong 3 sa 3 at meron tayong
dalawang 3 sa 6. Mas lumiit yung numbers na kailangan nating imultiply so continue natin
25 x1 is 25 then you denominator is simple 16 because you have 8 x 2. So we got the
answer 25/16. Clear ba sainyo kids? so that’s it for today thank you for your active
participation.
