There are Five Questions. Answer any Four of them.
Marks in the right margin indicate the full marks.

Q-1. (3+2+5=10)

a. What is the elaboration of IACS? Write the names of classification societies under IACS.
b. What do you understand by the Lloyd’s Register symbol 100A1.
c. Discuss elaborately the functions and overview of classification societies.

Q-2. (2+4+4=10)

a. Write the importance of steel surface preparation in shipbuilding sector.


b. Show in a tabular format of marine paint system for a new ship.
c. Briefly describe the most common methods to prepare steel surface for painting & write
your comments on the best method.

Q-3. (3+4+3=10)
a. Which portion of the ship’s hull mostly affect by corrosion due to immersion & why?
b. Write the composition of Zn alloy & effective current capacity of Mg alloy as sacrificial anode.
c. Write the criteria of a new and ideal shipyard.

Q-4. (5+5=10)

a. Briefly describe the overall process of ship construction.


b. Suppose you are a Naval Architect, you are given steel, aluminum & GRP as
shipbuilding materials to build a 20M long Inland survey boat. Which one do you want to
choose as shipbuilding material and why? Write down its advantages compare to others.
