I would like to express my deepest appreciation to my teacher Mr Barnett , he
continually and convincingly conveyed a spirit of adventure in regard to helping
me with this S.B.A .Without his guidance and persistence this S.B.A would not
have been possible.
I would also like to thank the students that took time out to participate in the
football tournament.
In addition, a special thanks to Mr. Campbell my Principal for allowing my class to
host this competition.
Introduction
The S.B.A for physical education and sports instructs that students are to host a
competition with each students taking on the role as an official in the tournament.
The students are required to manage every aspect of the tournament such as
planning out games raising money for prizes as well as umpiring the game.
Our class decided to do the sport football. Each member of the class was given a
certain role for a certain aspect of the tournament. Football was chosen because we
have seen a decline in the interest of the sport at St. Catherine High School. We
conducted the tournament among the Third formers to revamp interest among the
lower school.
Throughout the competition, each student was required to fulfil the responsibilities
of their roles and report on what they have done. My S.B.A is on the role of the
Event Manager.
History of Football
International
Modern football originated in Britain in the 19th century. Since before medieval times, “folk
football” games had been played in towns and villages according to local customs and with a
minimum of rules. Industrialization and urbanization, which reduced the amount of leisure time
and space available to the working class, combined with a history of legal prohibitions against
particularly violent and destructive forms of folk football to undermine the game’s status from
the early 19th century onward. However, football was taken up as a winter game between
residence houses at public (independent) schools such as Winchester, Charterhouse, and Eton.
Each school had its own rules; some allowed limited handling of the ball and others did not. The
variance in rules made it difficult for public schoolboys entering university to continue playing
except with former schoolmates. As early as 1843 an attempt to standardize and codify the rules
of play was made at the University of Cambridge, whose students joined most public schools in
1848 in adopting these “Cambridge rules,” which were further spread by Cambridge graduates
who formed football clubs. In 1863 a series of meetings involving clubs from metropolitan
London and surrounding counties produced the printed rules of football, which prohibited the
carrying of the ball. Thus, the “handling” game of rugby remained outside the newly formed
Football Association (FA). Indeed, by 1870 all handling of the ball except by the goalkeeper was
prohibited by the FA.
Local history
The most reliable records available indicate that football was introduced in Jamaica towards the
end of the 19th century and 1893 is listed as the year Jamaica formed its first football club. It
immediately found itself in competition with cricket which had established earlier popular roots
in the island.[1] This may have been partly due to the climate, which suited cricket better. Since
then football has flourished in Jamaica.
Objectives and rules of
Football
Football is a team sport. Two teams of eight players each try to
maneuver the ball into the opposing team’s goal, using any part of the
body except the hands and arms. The side scoring more goals wins.

• To ensure everything is going according to plan
• To see that students participate
