EVENT TITLE: Academic and Literary Contest 2021


THEME:

OBJECTIVES
1. To strengthen the academic and literary subjects that must anchor to the student’s experience
for the enhancement of knowledge,
2. To arouse the student’s interests, potentials, and needs through technology-based for
academic and literary purposes,
3. To hone the students’ intellectual aspect that nurtures one’s learning, and
4. To showcase skills and foster creative activities without any hindrance amidst the pandemic.

RATIONALE

School provides an excellent and high quality of education for the indulgent atmosphere of
student’s life-long learning. Indeed, every student must assure that they will be molded and enhanced by
the learning materials to be used inside the classroom for better learning. On the other side of it, school
provides activities that will hone student’s cognitive and skills aspects. Its primary goal is to arise the
student’s interest and needs to be executed through such learning activities.

Throughout the years, Leon Guinto Memorial College, Inc. succeeds in every competition
whether inside or outside of the school. Students were built in a strong and competent compassion in
competing in any kinds of activities. Thus, this year 2021 celebrating the 50 th Foundation Week performs
and provides some activities for academic and literary. It arises and extends the students’ capability and
skills for the optimum enhancement of knowledge.

Academic and Literary contests will expose and dredge up all the innovative learning of the
students in every major subjects and literary context. These contests comprise what students have “inside”
for academic and literary growth. This kind of activities will bring out their potentials that they ought to
unleash and uncover despite experiencing the pandemic.

STRATEGY
Academic and Literary Contests will have a s series of competitions for all educational levels
namely Junior High School, Senior High School and Tertiary levels. Each competition use innovative
platforms in competing such as Google Meet, Google Drive, Gmail, Adobe photoshop or any photo
editor, and Microsoft Word/WPS. These platforms are convenient to be used during the competition.
Participants must have a stable internet connection at his/her home to submit all the necessary entries for
pre-recorded contests and for live contests such as Quizbee and Spelling bee through Google meet.

I. SPOKEN WORD POETRY (FILIPINO)

Guidelines and Mechanics:


SPOKEN WORD POETRY is a performance art that is word based. It is a writing that is meant to be
spoken or delivered with emotions to an audience. It is an oral art that focuses on the art of word play,
rhythm, improvisation, intonation and voice inflection.

1. The contest will consist of three (3) categories {A, B, & C). All Junior High School of Grade 7-10
for Category A. Category B is open to all Senior High School (ABM, HUMSS, GAS&ICT), and
Category C for respective organizations from the Tertiary Level.
Note: There will be 2 representatives from each grade level in the JHS level, 2 representatives per
strand in SHS level and 2 representatives from each college organization for the tertiary level.

2. The spoken word poetry piece must be an original composition and must be written in Filipino.
3. The piece must be related to the theme which will be announced by the committee and must NOT
contain any malicious and offensive content. All entries must be participants’ original work. Usages
of another person’s work are prohibited, and entry will be automatically disqualified.
4. Each contestant is given 3-5 minutes to recite or deliver his/her piece.
5. Each spoken word poetry entry of participants must be pre-recorded using any camera such as mobile
phone cameras.
6. Sounds, instrumental or music background is allowed to complement the delivery. No deduction shall
be made if the contestant opts not to have a musical background.
7. The entries will be judged categorically.
8. Participants shall write their piece on a MS word or WPS document following the format below:
 Font style: Times New Roman
 Font size: 12
 Line Spacing: 1.5 ;Which shall be submitted on May 6, 2021 at 12 nn.

9. Upon Approval, Participants shall submit/upload their official Video entry on the links below on May
17, 2021:

I. PHOTO MEME CONTEST

Guidelines and Mechanics:

1. The contest will consist of three (3) categories {A, B, & C). All Junior High School of Grade 7-10
for Category A. Category B is open to all Senior High School (ABM, HUMSS, GAS&ICT), and
Category C for respective organizations from the Tertiary Level.

Note: There will be 2 representatives from each grade level in the JHS level, 2 representatives per
strand in SHS level and 2 representatives from each college organization for the tertiary level.

2. The competition will be conducted in his/her residence.


3. Participants are allowed to send only one (1) file as their entry.
4. They are only allowed to use their originally taken picture inside their homes or near their
vicinity.
5. Participants must indicate a simple “Meme”/message to support their idea in the picture. The Meme
must also align with the theme to be announced by the committee.
6. The participants must create their entry in any type of photo editor.
7. Participants must use Laptop or Desktop computers and make sure that they have strong internet
connection.
8. The Participants shall create their Meme on May 15, 2021 which will be monitored by the presiding
committee via Google meeting, the link of the meeting will be posted by the committee .
9. Upon Approval of the presiding committee, The participants shall upload the scanned copy of their
entry on May 17, 2021 on Google forms , the link of the google forms will be posted by the
committee .
10. The entries will be judged categorically.
11. Sending entries after the deadline will be considered invalid/void.

II. ESSAY WRITING CONTEST (FILIPINO AND ENGLISH)

Guidelines and Mechanics:


1. The contest will consist of three (3) categories (A, B, & C). All Junior High School of Grade 7-10
for Category A. Category B is open to all Senior High School (ABM, HUMSS, GAS&ICT), and
Category C for respective organizations from the Tertiary Level.

Note: There will be 2 representatives from each grade level in the JHS level, 2 representatives per
strand in SHS level and 2 representatives from each college organization for the tertiary level. Each
Grade level/organization must have 1 participant to write in Filipino and 1 in English

2. The competition will be conducted in the participant residence.


3. Participants will write an essay about the theme of the event that will be announced by the committee.
4. The entry should be a minimum of 350 words and maximum of 500 words.
5. Participants are shall use Microsoft word or WPS application in writing their entry. They should
provide their basic information like Name, Grade Level/Strand/Organization at the top of their
essay entries. For those participants who will not follow the prescribed basic information will be
invalid their entry.
6. Each participant must follow the given format below. This format must be employed in writing
his/her essay. Designs or creative layouts are NOT allowed in writing an essay.
Format:
 Size of the paper: 8.5” x 13”
 Font Style: Times New Roman
 Font Size: 12
 Margin: 1 inch each side
 Font Color: Black
 Line and Paragraph Spacing: 1.5
7. The Participant shall write their entry on May 17, 2021, 9:00 am to 11:am which will be supervised
and monitored by the committee via Google meet, Link of the meeting will be posted below.
8. Participants shall log into the meeting fifteen (15) minutes prior to the event. The said competition
will be held on May 17, 2021 and will start at exactly 9 o’clock in the morning.
9. Plagiarism is highly discouraged. Proper citation for any quoted and unquoted sources is a must.
10. The entry of each participant must be sent using a Google form to be provided by the presiding
committees.
11. The entries will be judged categorically.
12. Sending entries after the deadline will be considered invalid/void.

III. EDITORIAL CARTOONING

Guidelines and Mechanics:

and Category C for respective organizations from the Tertiary Level.

Note: There will be 2 representatives from each grade level in the JHS level, 2 representatives per

2. Representatives must be bona fide students of Leon Guinto Memorial College Inc.
3. The competition will be conducted in the participant’s residence.
4. The Participant shall create their entry on May 17, 2021, 9:00 am to 11:am which will be
supervised and monitored by the committee via Google meet, Link of the meeting will be posted
below.
5. Participants shall log into the meeting fifteen (15) minutes prior to the event. The said
competition will be held on May 17, 2021 and will start at exactly 9 o’clock in the morning.
6. Participants shall draw a cartoon about the theme of the event that will be announced by the
committee.
7. Entries must be the original work of the contestant, must not infringe upon the copyrights,
trademarks, rights of privacy, or other intellectual property or the rights of any person or
entity.
8. Evidence of plagiarism or any violation of competition rules will result to disqualification
from this competition.
9. Entries awarded status will be judged according to the judges’ determination of creativity,
cleverness, draftsmanship, relevance to the category to which the cartoon was submitted, courage,
and humor.
10. In event of a tie, Winner will be determined based on the judges’ discretion. If there is evidence
of internet voting manipulation by the entrant or by outside parties, category winners may
be disqualified based on the judge’s discretion.
11. Each entry must be worked on an Oslo paper. Participant’s entry must be scanned on a printer (if
there’s no any printer at your home, download Scanner App to PDF Tap Scanner on Play Store),
the scanned entry must be through Google form to be provided by the presiding committees.
12. The entries will be judged categorically.
13. Sending entries after the deadline will be considered invalid/void.

Note: Pre-recorded entries must be submitted on the indicated dates. Each work of the participant must be
done in free hand and be officially submitted to the provided links under Academic and Literary
Organization. The artist will be held accountable to any issues that may arise with regards to the
originality and authenticity of the design. Announcement of winners for academic and literary
competitions will held on Pagsayawit event. The finalists will receive e-Certificates of Participation and
prizes

1. GROUP QUIZ BEE MECHANICS

General Rules and Guidelines:


1. The competition shall be participated by five (5) teams. Each team must have eight (8) participants
—one representative for each grade level (Grades 7 to 12) and one representative from tertiary level
(CBA and CTE).
2. The competition will be conducted in the participant’s residence.
3. The competition is composed of three rounds namely Easy Round, Average Round and Difficult
Round. Clincher round will apply in case of a tie
4. All questions are coming from the major, core and general subjects mentioned under the scope
portion of this paper. All teams will answer the same set of questions. The questions will be equally
derived from among the subjects included.

5. Ten (10) question will be given in the easy round, each correct answer is equivalent to one (1)
point. In average round, ten (10) questions will be given and each correct answer is equivalent to
three (3) points. And, in difficult round, five (5) questions will be given and each correct answer is
equivalent to five (5) points.
6. Each participant must join the virtual competition using Google Meet as a platform. The link for the
said platform will be sent by the assigned moderator in each participant, one (1) hour before the
competition.
7. All participants shall use any of the following electronic devices during the virtual competition:
 Cellphone/mobile phone
 Tablet
 Laptop/netbook/desktop
Provided that they have a strong internet connection during the event and the device should be tested
in advance by the participants/parents. There will be a dry run for the participants that will be
announced by the committee.
8. Misbehavior of a team during the contest is a sufficient condition for disqualification of this team.
9. No questions shall be entertained during the contest proper.
10. Participants shall be log into the meeting fifteen (15) minutes prior to the event. The said
competition will be held on May 20, 2021 and will start at exactly 9 o’clock in the morning.
11. The moderator will send a link of the attendance form for each level. Each participant will fill out
the attendance form given by the moderator that will be used to group them accordingly based on
their attendance number.
12. The moderator will use breakout room to divide all the participants into five groups.
13. Each group will use jam board in each item to show their answer. Each participant may
communicate to his/her team during the competition.
14. Each group will have twenty (20) seconds to type their answer under easy round, thirty (30)
seconds for the average round, and forty-five (45) seconds for the difficult round.
15. The questions will be read by the Quizmaster twice.
16. The participants are allowed to write their answers after the quizmaster gave the “GO” signal. After
the required time-limit in each round, the Quizmaster will say “STOP” and the participants are not
allowed to answer.
17. The Quizmaster shall read and verify the groups’ answer.
18. The group who gets the highest number of points is automatically declared the champion or the
runner-up as the case may be.
19. In case of clincher round, tie-breaker word will be given. Each correct answer from the question is
equivalent to five (5) points. The group to answer the question correctly will be declared the
Winner on the tie breaker.
20. Live contest will be flashed on FB live.
21. Clarifications regarding the rules of competition shall be entertained by the committee only
before the start of the contest.
Qualification for Participants:
1. Participant must be a bona fide student of Leon Guinto Memorial College.
2. Participants should have an electronic gadget/device that will be used in the competition.
3. Participants should have a strong Wi-Fi or Data Connection at home.
