RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

( This chapter presents the description of the research method selection and description

of respondents and key informants, sampling method used, research instrument, sources of data,

research procedure and the statistical treatment used. )

Research Method/Research Design

The study will be approached quantitative research, the purpose of this study

is to calculate the average of the impacts being done by the work from home scheme on the

Senior High School Teachers in Sorsogon National High School.

The descriptive method was used in this study. This Method was utilized to

answer the research problems.

The descriptive method Is used to describe the characteristics of a population

or phenomenon being studied. Descriptive research is “aimed at Casting light on current issues

or problems through a process of data collection to describe the situation. The researchers aim in

employing this method was to describe the nature of the situation as it exists at the time of the

study, such as analyzing the impact of Work-From-Home Scheme to the senior high school

teachers in Sorsogon National high school.

Descriptive research is a term used to describe many types of Survey Research that are

undertaken by marketing researchers to understand customer perceptions, judgments, and

intentions. We describe the key considerations that guide the design of a descriptive study such
as survey method (e.g., phone versus mail versus email), cost, and data analysis technique.

(Mittal 2010)

Respondents and Key Informant

In this study, respondents are Senior high school teachers in Sorsogon National

High School. The researchers will give a questionnaire surveys to 25 teachers from senior high

department to gather an information about their experience in working from home, also to know

the impact of this setting to their daily life and Work

Sampling Method

The researchers utilized a simple random sampling method in gathering data. Such

method was decided in order to provide complete statistical coverage over space and time – to

have a higher degree of accuracy and to give findings that are generalizable or externally valid.

Research Instrument

The instruments used by the researchers will be a Survey questionnaire to be answered by

the respondents of Senior High School Teachers in Sorsogon National High School which will

be given to them. In the preparation of instrument, the requirements in the designing of good

data collection instrument were considered.

Questionnaire. A research instrument that consists of a set of questions or other

types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent. A research questionnaire is

typically a mix of close-ended questions and open-ended questions.

Validation. The researcher made the online questionnaire carefully to make sure
that the questionnaire will bring out the needed data. Validity is one of main concerns with

research. Controlling all possible factors that threaten the research's validity is a primary

responsibility of every hood researcher.

Administration. Perform, for a funded system, compliance, administrative

management, enforcement, review or supervision. The administrator’s interactions with

researchers serve as the greater role of fully recognizing the completion.

Construction. The process for people to synthesize their prior knowledge or social

factors into the situation created in contexts and then construct meaning. To solve the problem

through the process of operationalization, the researchers would articulate the parameters of the

definitions of work from home thereby providing clarity about their intentions or specific

interpretations of the variable in the researcher study.

Retrieval. The active recovery of previously encoded information from long-term

memory into conscious, working memory. It is maximized when the cues present during

encoding closely match the cues present in the questionnaire.

Scoring of Responses. a way of manipulating your data for analysis. The

researchers can assign a score instead of the code. This is generally used for scoring satisfaction

surveys, so that positive values and negative ratings are given negative values.

Source of Data

The data pertaining to the first specific problem of this research which is about the impact of

Work From Home Scheme to those Senior High School Teachers. By using the primary source
of data; survey , interview and questionnaires researchers will obtained from the responses the

key information they need in there study.

Data Gathering Procedures

In line with the quantitative research design and method, messenger, and softcopy

of questionnaire were the only methods used in gathering the data. Any qualitative forms of data

gathering methods – such as interviews and observations - were not used in this study.

The researcher asked permission from the Teacher to conduct the

study.

The researcher asked the teachers permission to participate in

our study and answer the survey questionnaires.

The researcher gave the survey questionnaires to the participants.

The researcher collected the results to the participants when they are finish
answering the survey questionnaires

Figure 1: Data Gathering Flow

The researcher will utilize an organized and systematic flow in the conduct of

research undertaking.

In the collection of the data, the researchers make the questionnaires using

Microsoft word. The researchers asked for the participants’ permission to participate in the

study. Then, the researchers handed over the survey questionnaires to the teachers-respondents.

Lastly, the researchers will personally retrieve all the accomplished questionnaires. After

retrieving the questionnaires, the researchers will do the tallying and computation. The assistance

if the expert statistician will be sought for the interpretation and analysis of gathered data.

Method of Scoring and Interpretations

The results of the survey will be analyzed using a Likert’s scale of 1 to 5. The

mean ranges will be categorized as follows:

Scale Weighted Mean Interpretation

5 4.20 – 5.00 Strongly Agree
4 3.40 – 4.10 Agree
3 2.60 – 3.30 Neutral
2 1.80 – 2.50 Disagree
1 1.00 – 1.70 Strongly Disagree

Table 1: Likert Scale for the Impact Assessment of Work from home scheme

The survey questionnaires aims to measure the level impact of work from home scheme

experienced by the respondents, the participants were asked to rate each question on a 5-point

scale (1 – Strongly Agree; 2 – Disagree; 3 – Neutral; 4 – Agree; 5 – Strongly Agree). In order to

get the scoring, the scores for all of the items were tallied and then divided by the total number of

the respondents to acquire the weighted mean.

Statistical Treatment of Data

In this study, this is where the gathered data be tabulated and be analyzed according to

the results of the given survey that the researchers have conducted. Also, in this study, the

researchers used the Likert scale as the basis of the result from the gathered data.

Frequency. It is the measure of the number of occurrences of a particular

score in the given set of data.

Weighted Mean. In this study, it was used as an overall outcome or the

sum of all the responses together over the total number of questions.

Whereas,

X =¿ Mean
∑ =¿ Summation symbol

N = ¿ total number of responses for each item

Percentage. It means “out of every one hundred”. it is derived by dividing one

quantity by another with the latter rebased to one hundred.

Formula: p=f/n x 100

Where:

p = percentage

f = frequency

n = total number of respondents

100 = constant multiple

Ranking. Rank correlation is defined through the notion of distance functions

and the notion of compatibility is introduced to deal with incomplete data. This is used to

determine what given statement have been chosen by the respondents
