3° ISSUE
Welcome scavengers to the third issue of Overdrive the fanzine dedicated
to Gaslands: Refuelled.
In this issue, a new scenario, a new vehicle type, two tutorial and a new
section, the Garage, which will showcase creations from the community.
Free to read and created under the “Friends of Gaslands” structure, the
content presented in Overdrive is a fan made, non-official additional
content for Gaslands: Refuelled. Be indulgent with the mistakes and typos
that are bound to be present in this fanzine.
If you want to contribute to Overdrive send your ideas and photos to
overdrive@astrolabe.games. While Astrolabe is keeping the right to adapt
your content in the edition process, everybody will be given credits for
their contribution.

Every attack that hits a wagon will remove Hill point to the Locomotive.
Exery weapon mounted on a wagon must be measured from the wagon for the purpose

This behemoth of steel and steam is heading directly toward CoalRest, a mining
community. His intentions are clear, raid the community. Panicked, the miners
hive you to stop the war train before it reaches the community
SCENARIO GOAL
Stop the War Train before it reaches its destination. Players win once they
control the Locomotive and all it's Wagons.
REQUIRED MATERIAL
You will need one heavy vehicle with a minimum of three wagons. This is
the War Train. Each additional wagon will make the game longer. Having
some 15 mm miniature to represent the crew is useful but not mandatory.
If you don't have some, use small dice (or other small accessories) to
represent the crew that will assault che War Train.
TEAMS
This scenario is designed to be played solo or in coop. This means the
players ate in the same team, but can still take different sponsors. The team
has a total of 100 Cans, divided evenly between players. For example, in a
game of 100 Cans, two players would have 50 Cans each, at three players
they would have 33 Cans each to make their team. IF you want to change
the number of Wagons, use the following table to determine the total of
Cans

Cas 0BSETUP AND DEPLOYMENT
Secup a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The War Train starts the game with its
locomotive touching the edge of the table and all its wagons on the edge of
the table edge. The locomotive should have roughly four feet (120 em) to
cross in a straight line to reach the opposite edge of the table.
‘The player vehicles start the game touching the side edge of the rable at
a minimum of one Long straight template from the War Train. If your
gaming space is not big enough, try putting the War Train in a diagonal line
or turn its last wagons along the edge of the table.
8 GAV MASSEYPOLE POSITION AND TURN STRUCTURE
‘The players consult each other to find out who will have the Pole position. It
will change hands clockwise at the end of each Gear Phase. Remember that
this isa cooperative scenario. The player with the Pole Position activates his
first vehicle. It is then his colleague's turn and so on until all of the players’
vehicles have been activated.
‘The War Train is then activated. After his Movement phase, roll a die on
the War Train Defense System Table and apply the effects immediately. The
train then activates its weapons.
Finally, it's the curn of the assailants on the train, as they move o attempt
to take control of the ear they are in. The War Train and the assailants
aboard it activates in Gear phase 1, 2 and 3 only.
ONBOARDING SPECIAL RULES
The player's vehicle uses the same rule as the basic game. Only the crew
that comes on board the War Train is subject to theses special rules:
* All Aboard!: One or more crew members of a vehicle can jump on
board of the War Train. To do so the vehicle must be at a maximum,
of Short range from the wagon of the War
Each crewmember that try to board the war Train must roll a D6. On
a result of 1 the crewmember miss his jump and fall co his death and is
climinated from the game. This action replaces their normal attack step
for this gear phase.
* Combat aboard the War Train: During the activation that follows theit
boarding of the War Train, the crew members can try to take the control
of the wagon they are in. They use the weapons they have with them,
usually a handgun or their specific crew weapon. ‘Their attack hit on a
3+ and the War Train cannot Evade them. But beware, each result of 1
on the attack dice means the crew member is killed by the defense of
the War Train. A wagon that lost 10 Hull points is considered under
the control of the attacking team. ‘The weapons of this wagon are now
useless for the rest of the game. Leave this wagon attached to the rest of
the War Train.

8Moving aboard the War Train: Once a wagon is under the control
of the players, their crew members can move to another wagon (or
the locomotive) that is adjacent to their position. ‘This move uses their
Activation step. Then, they ean try to take control of that new Wagon in
their next Activation step.
Players’ vehicles: They use the normal rules of Gaslands: Refuclled.
“They can attack the wagons or the locomotive following the normal rule.
WAR TRAIN SPECIAL RULES
‘The War Train never takes Hazard tokens and ignores all obstacles. The
train is Heavy Weight and uses the Piledriver Attack rule (page 121) when
resolving a Collision. The War Train is always considered in Gear 3 and
always Evades like a vehicle in Gear 3.
* Movement: The War Train always moves in a straight line using the
Short movement template. He moves only during the Gear phase
one to three and does not activate in Gear phase four, five and six.
When the locomotive reaches the other side of the table, the game ends
immediately. It never throws Skid dices and nothing stops it. During a
Collision, the War Train always declares a Smash Attack.
THE WAR TRAIN ACTIVATES ONLY DURING GEAR PHASE ONE TO THREE
AFTER ALL THE PLAYER'S VEHICLE GOT ACTIVATED.* War Train Weapons: The locomotive and each wagon have one turret-
mounted Minigun. These weapons shoot at Double range and attack
with 416, Turrets always prioritize the vehicle that is the closest of the
Locomotive, but will try to pick different targets if possible. In case of
indecision regarding the right target for those turrets, the players with
the Pole position decide which vehicle is the target.
A wagon who lose all his Hull points is considered under the control
of the players. The weapon of this wagon is disabled and is of no more
use for the rest of the game. Each wagon have 10 Hull points, the
locomotive have 20 Hull points. ‘Taking control of the locomotive
neutralizes its turret AND stop the Defense System of the War Train,
* ire: The War Train can be set on Fire. Each wagon or locomotive set
on fire loses one Hull point at the start of their activation. During its
defense step, it is possible that the War Train extinguishes the flames.
* Special equipment: To make the game more fun and difficult, give the
war train some special equipment. During setup, throw a die and apply
the following table.

Follow the sequence below:

D, Players’ crew onboard activate : Each crew onboard either attack their current wagon,

VICTORY CONDITIONS
‘The players win the game if they take control of all the wagons and the
locomotive before it reaches the opposite edge of the table.

1956: Nimbus Act, beginning of the civilian sky colonization
1961: New London airship city is afloat.
1968: All major cities are under a permanent Smog, global ground collapse.
1979: Steamlands TV show launches.
Earth is now a ghetto polluted with the infinite fumes of the coal factories.
Most onground population is enslaved by the industry and struggles
to survive. Corporate owners and managers live above the Smog in
airship cities and luxurious steam-powered aeronefs. Organized by filthy
onground coal-aborators, Steamlands is the favorite entertainment of the
moment of the richest. This ultra-violent’TV show broadcasts amateur and
professional death races from across the world. The winner's prize: a one-
way ticket to a new life in the high-class New London airship city.
Gaslands is set in the beginning of a post-apocalyptic 21st century where
gas oil is the main currency. Steamlands is an alternative universe where
stcam machines are king. Inspired by the work of Jules Verne, it has a neo-
Victorian vibe and some retro-futuristic tech.
To play in the Steamlands universe just use the standard rule of Gaslands:
Refuelled and add the following rules. For a more immersive take, replace
the term Can by Cog.
RSPECIAL RULE
COAL.
‘Most steam engines consume coal and water. Take a shovel and be sure to feed
the boiler to keep it under pressure!
In Steamlands, coal and water are vital to generate the steam necessary for
your vehicle going. To keep the game simple, Coal token represents the
fuel for the boiler. You can use wooden cubes, small rocks or tokens from
other games to represent these tokens.
‘Ac the beginning of the game, each vehicle begins with a number of Coal
token linked to his Weight Class:
* Lightweight : 3 Coal coken
+ Mediumweight : 4 Coal token
+ Heavyweight : 5 Coal token
Once per activation, at the start of its Movement Step, this vehicle may
temporarily reduce its Crew Value until the end of the Attack Step, to fill
the boiler with coal. For each Crew assigned, discard one Coal token and
raise its current Gear by one up to its Max Gear.
At the end of each Turn, just after Gear Phase 6, each vehicle must
discard one Coal token or reduce its Current Gear by two.

TERRAIN
COAL. DEPOSIT
Coal is the main energy source in the Steamland universe and vehicles
must resupply during their long journeys. Coal deposits are Destructible
obstacles, they contain a number of Coal token linked to their weight.

STEAM WRECK
‘When a vehicle becomes a wreck, if it does not explode, itis considered a
Coal deposit with its remaining Coal token. Transfer the remaining Coal
token to any vehicle colliding with the wreck.
14VEHICLE UPGRADE
TENDER
Cost : 2 Cogs, 1 Build Slot
Part of the vehicle is used to stock a large amount of water and coal to feed
the boiler. This vehicle gets +3 additional Coal tokens at the start of the
game.
@ MICK ALLAN‘The Easiese Skulls you will Ever Paint, by James Hall
Anyone who has seen my work knows that I like skulls on my
Gaslands cars. Even on my very first cars I painted skulls and used
tiny 15mm metal skeleton bits for gruesome trophies. In this
tutorial I will show you the casiest skull you will ever paint, and all
you need is 3 paints, your favourite paintbrush, and one paintbrush
with a nice fine tip.
To start, make sure you've base-coated your car in the colour of
your choice. I prefer a black base-coat.
Decide where you want the skull to go and paint an oval shape in
beige paint. This will be a guide for how wide, and how long the
skull will be when finished.
From the centre of the oval, paint down towards the front of the
car, and out to the sides. This rectangle shape will be the upper row
of teeth of the skull.
‘toNow using a white paint, begin to build a layer on-top of
the beige paint leaving a small amount of the beige showing
dhrough.
‘The next step is painting the focal details of a skull; the two
eye-sockets, nose and teeth. Using your fine-tipped brush
and black paint. I think this is where people struggle or
worry about making mistakes, so let's break this down.
Start by painting a black arrow-head, with the tip of the V
shape point up co the centre of the oval shape.
Then to the left of the arrow-head, paint a small kidney bean
shape. There should be a little gap between the arrow-head
and the kidney bean, and if you use a long straight line at the
cop it will give the suggestion of a brow to the skull.
“Then on the right side of the arrow-head, copy the kidney
bean shape like a mirtor image. You can do this by painting
in with your brush.
a rough outline, before filling
To paint the teeth of the skull, start with a thin line just
underneath the arrow-head, and pull down towards the
front of the car.
Paint more downwards lines on cither side. As an optional
final step, paint ewo lines below the arrow-head and reaching
out at 45 degrees either side to create a cheekbone effect.
And there you have it, the easiest way to paine a skull. You
can apply this at any size, in any combination, and even
cover a car in skulls!By Sébastien Blais
‘The joy of aking a sharp turn surrounded by
concrete barrier blocks! Here is a simple tutorial to
create Jersey barriers for your Gaslands terrain.
1. For this tutorial I've used some 1/8” thick MDF
wood.
(A) Cut ewo stripes 1/2” wide by 2” long. (B) Cut
two %4" by ¥4” square. (C) Cur one 13" wide by 3/8”
long rectangle.
2. Glue the wo squares (B) to each endpoint of
one of the stripes (A). Glue the small rectangle (C)
well centred. Then, glue the last stripe (A) to form a
rectangle.
83. Once glued (A) it will do a V form. T have access to a
bele sander so I sanded it to have a nice flat surface. This is
‘optional and just has a nice touch to the barrier.
4, (A) L used a black primer and a dark grey for the primary
colour, I've finished the barrier with a dry brush of light grey.
You can make it direy with another drybrush of whatever
colour you see fit.
VARIANTS
‘To create a foolproof barrier you can combine this tutorial with the one
about the metal fence found in Overdrive 1* Issue.

in place. (C) Attach the fence on the studs.
6a. (C) cut some plastic rectangles and glue chem to the studs. Paine them
and voila!
