Purpose : This procedure is used as work instruction for Boiler operator , Desk Engineer ,
Shift Incharge
Scope : This procedure explains the lineup , startup , shutdown , isolation of FD Fans.
Responsibility: Boiler 0 Mt Operator, Desk Engineer, SWGR operator.
Procedure:
LINE UP PROCEDURE
No permit is pending.
All manholes in secondary air duct are closed.
DMCW booster pump is in service.
Lineup Cooling water to Lub oil cooler ( DMCW Supply, return valves are open
)
Fan Outlet damper is closed.
Lub oil level is normal.
All instruments are lined up.
Inst. Air to Blade pitch actuating power cylinder is open.
Air heater outlet damper is open, and bypass damper is closed.
Make sure that at least one APH is running for 8 hours before start up of FD
fan.
Breaker is in service and in Remote.
Motor protection relay is healthy
Both lube oil pumps modules are ON and in remote.
Fan discharge damper module is ON and in remote.
START UP
START CRITERIA OF THE FD FAN:
a) Tank oil level > 50%
b) Tank oil temp > 25 deg C (Manual)
c) Control oil pressure > 20 bar
d) Lub oil pressure > 4 bar
e) Bearing temp < 95 deg C
f) Control blade adjustment: Manual

ALARM & TRIP VALUES
When the fan is kept under service, the following values may be applied as reference limit
and in case the values are found exceeding, suitable corrective actions may be carried out
to maintain the following values below alarm limit.
DESCRIPTION ALARM TRIP
Fan Bearing Temperature ≥ 95 deg C ≥ 105 deg C
Fan Bearing Vibration (Vel -rms). ≥ 4.5 mm/s ≥ 9.0 mm/s
Fan Bearing Vibration (Vel - rms ≥ 7.0 mm/S ≥ 14 mm/s
Differential Pressure across oil filter ≥ 5 bar
Lub Oil Pressure low ≤ 4 bar
Control Oil Pressure low ≤ 14 bar
Oil Level in the Tank low < 50 %
Refer Logic Diagram For Additional Interlock:
Ensure that all protections and interlocks are functioning properly.
Start the motor. Check for correct direction of rotation of motor. This fan should
rotate in Anti-clockwise while viewing from motor.
Keep the delivery damper in full close position.
Start lube oil pump. Ensure pressure is normal
Keep the inlet guide vanes in closed position.
Start the Fan and note starting time.
Ensure that the discharge damper starts opening with the start of fan motor.
Check for any abnormal noise in the Fan.
Load the fan by opening Inlet guide vanes.
• Check and record the motor current, voltage, and blade opening position.
SHUTDOWN:
Take the Fan operation to manual from auto operation.
Unload the fan by reducing the blade pitch.
• Set the blades to minimum.

• Stop the Fan.
• Close the discharge damper.
• Note the deceleration time of the Fan.
ISOLATION PROCEDURE
1. Ensure fan is OFF.
2. Rack out the breaker and switch OFF DC supply.
3. Switch OFF discharge damper module.
3. Switch OFF Lub oil pumps (A, B) modules. (After lub oil system was stopped.)
