OBJECTIVE 9
Designed, adapted and implemented teaching strategies that are responsive to learners with disabilities,
giftedness and talents
PROMPT #1
Context: Clara is often seen restless or unfocused in class. She also has troubles following instructions
and skips activities when left unsupervised.
Action Taken: You had a conference with her parents and found out from them that Clara was diagnosed
with a learning disability.
How will you modify the instructions for Clara to keep her focus on classroom activities? Write your
reflections in this form. Mention in your reflections a specific learning disability that you are familiar with
or have researched on.
YOUR REFLECTIONS
I believe that of the millions of young children who are diagnosed with learning disability, only few
receive the full scope of assistance that they need in order to grow and succeed. Despite the advances our
society has made when it comes to special education and offering resources to special needs children, I
still believe that the society is falling short of operating at its greatest potential to aid those with learning
disability. I also feel that our culture devalues the important role that family support plays in the lives of
these children. It is not only the teachers and health care workers to help these children to thrive and be
successful. With the proper tools and instruction children who are diagnosed with disability can have a
much learning less frustrating learning experience, as well as their family. As a teacher, I see the value of
patient education on a daily basis. Here in our place where there is no special education is available a
teacher must find ways different strategies that fit to them. In order for someone to deal with special
needs, they need to understand the factors involved in a child’s improvement, have a heart for helping
others and be properly educated and trained.

OBJECTIVE 9
Designed, adapted and implemented teaching strategies that are responsive to learners with disabilities,
giftedness and talents
PROMPT #2
Design a lesson plan for the gifted and talented learners based on your idea on how they may be
addressed in your class. Your strategies for the gifted and talented learners must be highlighted and
annotated in this form. Attach your lesson plan here
YOUR ANNOTATION
Being a regular classroom teacher can be both exciting and overwhelming experience. There are so many
curriculums to cover, so many standards to meet, and so many things to learn. It can seem as though
you’re being stretched in an infinite number of directions. And, the most challenging part isn’t the
teaching; it is managing learners behavior. Without a doubt the most difficult learner in your classroom is
generally the one who finishes every assignment in less than five minutes and requires your constant
redirection. As a teacher of Clara it is a challenge must be surpass. It is about measuring my ability to
recognize the problem and make an action to meet my learner’s need without making them feel that they
are different. Teachers must know that my learners walk into their classroom with a wide range of gifts
and try to find ways to meet their needs, including those with learning and thinking differences. In order
to be effective, the best thing you can do for myself is to let go of the idea of “normal”. Give them
opportunity to grow from where they are, not from where your teaching training courses they should be.

OBJECTIVE 10
Adapted and used culturally appropriate teaching strategies to address the needs of learners from
indigenous groups
PROMPT #1
Below is an assessment activity for a class of 30 learners, five of which belong to an indigenous peoples
(IP) group. Evaluate the appropriateness of the activity to your learners. Write your response in this
form.
Directions: For your assessment, research on the following roles in your community by asking your
parents or anyone with knowledge on these roles. Choose from Set A and Set B. Explain why these are
important roles.
Set A Set B
1. mayor 1. Datu/chieftin
2. councilors 2. Community elders
3. medical officers 3. healers
YOUR REFLECTIONS
I realized that we can do much more in seeking quality life with indigenous people. Based on what I had
read about them, it is a great challenge for me to find out how am I going to love the culture and
understand further these people. Although we don’t have them here in my place. I am a little bit excited to
know and see them in their community. If given a chance to meet them, my first thing to do is to know
their language so that I may be able to relate with them. As a teacher I want to help to educate their
children by accompanying them as they developed their potentials, gain knowledge safeguards their
rights. Despite differences in our perceptions, attitudes, values, characters, religion, thoughts and ideas,
we can still work together in harmony for peace, prosperity and equality with the intention of total human
development.
