PLAYERS PRESENTS
William Shakespeare's

A Midsummer
Night's Dream
Directed by Brantley Waller

April 30th - May 1st

Kreher Preserve and Nature Center

A Midsummer
Night's Dream
By William Shakespeare

Director's Note
Shakespeare.

Popular guy. He wrote a lot of stuff a very long time ago, and he’s
consistently the most produced playwright in the US even today.
That’s probably because he wrote about some stuff that’s still
pretty relevant.

Like the power greed has to destroy our environment.

Or insidious societal structures that uphold oppressive practices.
But he also wrote about the restorative power of love.

Despite the greed that has ravaged the forest of Athens, or the
ownership given to Egeus over his daughter simply due to his
assigned gender, this is still a play that reminds us about the
healing capabilities of love.

“If it is true… that love is the only sane and satisfactory response
to the problem of human existence, then any society which
excludes, relatively, the development of love, must in the long run
perish of its own contradiction with the basic necessities of
human nature” – bell hooks
