Mark Rosewater answers several questions from players on his blog: 1) Shadow is an iconic mechanic for black, but it's unclear how many new Shadow cards will be in future sets. 2) Any color can turn creatures into other creature types if it's flavorful, such as Sarkhan turning into a dragon. 3) The reserved list was created for business not power reasons, so a powerful card like Wheel of Fortune could potentially be reprinted. 4) Black bordered cards can't put cards from another player's hand into yours to avoid potential discomfort from strangers handling each other's cards.

absolutelynot3 asked:

If/When, a Shadow themed commander? It's my favorite mechanic.

If. I’m not sure how many new cards with Shadow we’re going to be making.

rolscane asked:

Gideon is known for turning himself into a creature and attacking but that's not exclusive to White, right? So how does the color pie see this? All colors
have equal access to it? Do other colors need additional restrictions?

Sarkhan has turned into a Dragon. Any color can do it if the creature is appropriate, flavorwise and mechanically, for the color.

evanplaysmtg asked:

Wheel of Fortune... too dangerous to take it off the reserved list and reprint? Many decks would love the benefit of a full wheel in EDH I figure.

The Reserved List has nothing to do with power. There are plenty of weak cards on it.

relicmtg asked:

Why can't black-border cards put cards another player owns into your hand?

Because a lot of competitive sanctioned play is between players who don’t know each other and we’re trying to avoid the discomfort of someone you don’t
know handling your cards.

jjustin1379 asked:

Do you feel like you are stretching evergreen keywords to too many colors. Reach used to be only green now white and red can both get it. Green gets
flying in almost ever set now and even blue has haste and is getting vigilance.

Reach is only secondary in red. Green gets flying infrequently (mostly on Dragons in cycles), and blue gets haste like once a decade.

rolscane asked:

Were defender counters debated to appear on Ikoria as a twist on Pacifism with the set mechanic?

It got brought up once as a joke, and never discussed again.

pontemosca asked:

Hi Mark, about Gatherer, it updates tomorrow with SNC cards. Probably also with the Innistrad version of the SL cards.

FYI

crestfall3n asked:

Hi Mark! So what is your opinion on squirrels in this day and age? :)

I’m pro-Squirrel.

Darn tootin’! -

per-mariam-ad-jesum asked:

What’s the origin of the term “oracle text?” When did official rules text (as distinct from what’s printed on the card) become called oracle text?

There is a document called Oracle that has all the latest rules text for the cards.

drummerjon131 asked:

If or when: a card that combines dice rolling and coin flipping.

trifas asked:

What's Black greatest weakenesses?

It works too hard, it cares too much, and it’s too much of a perfectionist. : )

georgehadley asked:

Is treasure generation evergreen in either standard sets or the associated commander releases going forward?

It’s deciduous.

cle-guy asked:

Is blue tertiary in haste now?

A distant tertiary. : )

otterpopd asked:

do you have a planeswalker scale, similar to the storm scale? Is that too story-dependant?

It’s called the Venser Scale.

timelyintervention asked:

Hey Mark!

I just read that Norm Macdonald did some work on Roseanne. Did you ever meet or work with him?

PS: I'm loving SNC.

We didn’t overlap. The two people on the writing staff that went on to big success was Chuck Lorre and Amy Sherman(-Palladino).
