PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet


1) Name and describe your organization.

The organization I will be discussing for the remainder of the couse is Starbucks Coffee
Company. Starbucks is a publicly traded company that serves food and beverages.
Starbucks is a interesting company to study because Starbucks is widly known for being
employee focused. Starbucks often choosing to take care of the employees over profits.
Starbucks has always believed that if you take care of your employees first they will help
you succeed.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role in the organization is I am a Store Manager. Within the organization the store
manager role is very important to the success of the company. As a store manager I
impact the daily success or failure of the business. I also interact directly daily with the
hourly partners. I help them feel supported and help them be more successful and equiped
to work with the customers.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

While being a Store Manager we were impacted heavily during COVID. I had to navigate
a lot of challenges and unknown variables. During this time it was essencial to work with
my team and lean into my strengths. I often had to navigate situations where I was asked
questions that I did not have the answer to. I had to develop my interpersonal skill and
ask for help or ask for answers from my peers and my boss.
