Worksheet Objectives:

1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.

2. Describe the organization and situation.

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Describe your organization.

The organization I am choosing is a very large corporation and is well known around the
world. I am choosing Starbucks Coffee Company. Starbucks is one of the largest coffee
brands and retail chains in the world. Starbucks has dealt with its fair share of
challenges and cases in the lime light. Starbucks employs hundreds of thousands of
people around the world, and has a huge economic impact of the US. Anywhere you go
you can see a Starbucks, and when you see that logo, you know exactly what it is. It
seems only natural to choose this company.

2) Describe how Describe your role in the organization (it can be internal or external).

My current role is in the organization. I am a current store manager, and have been with
the company for 10 years. I started as a barista and worked my way up over the years to
my current position which I have been in for the last 4 years. I have had a lot of
experiences that I can draw from and a different perspective than a customer.

3) Describe the situation. (see the Canvas instructions for details, especially about how
your situation will be analyzed from five different perspectives over the next five
modules)

The situation in which I am choosing is the challenges that I faced as a leader within
Starbucks since the start of COVID, and more specifically the first few months when the
Pandemic was at its peak. I lead a store of about 20 people, at the beginning of the
pandemic we have all of our partners the choice to stay home and continue being paid, or

they could choose to continue to work with a increased wage. With the threat of COVID
a lot of partners elected to stay home and isolate. At one point I was operating my normal
location of 20 people with only 8. We faced so many challenges ranging from staffing,
morale, an increased amount of drive thru customers, to constant changes in regulations
and health policies. This situation really tested me, my leadership, my resiliency, and
gave me an opportunity to apply my learnings from classes, as well as lead through an
otherwise unprecedented time in human history. This is why I chose this situation.
