A. CONTENT STANDARD
The learner values the functions/purposes of Oral Communication.
B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner writes a 250-word essay of his/her objective observation and
evaluation of the various speakers watched and listened to.

Activity: Show a picture of a family and ask the students;

Group Activity
a. Group the students into 5.
b. Let them pick one envelope then arrange the puzzle to reveal the picture
and then explain how communication is being used in the picture. This
will lead them to the functions of communication.

A. After presenting their answers, process it.


B. Post the function of communication on the board and ask each group to
match their picture to the function of communication.

F. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Functions of Communication Basically, there are five functions of communication. These are
control, social interaction, motivation, emotional expression, and information dissemination.

1. Control – Communication functions to control behavior.


2. Social Interaction – Communication allows individuals to interact with others.
3. Motivation – Communication motivates or encourages people to live better.
4. Emotional Expression – Communication facilitates people’s expression of their feelings
and emotions.
5. Information dissemination – Communication functions to convey information.

G. Developing Mastery
Analysis
Read and anlayze the following situations then identify what function of
communication is applied.
1. The commentator asked the mass attendees to keep 1 meter social distancing and
wear face masks upon entering the church. He added to keep silence also while the
mass is on going.
2. Ms. Flaveria submits information about the results of swab tests of the LSI’s to the
Rural Health Unit.
3. Teacher Cotchay observed that Arturo seems lonely so she called his attention and
asked him to go to her office. When he arrived at her office, Teacher Cotchay asked if
something is bothering him. When she knew the reasons, she gave pieces of advice.
4. The Governor signed a memorandum prohibiting the issuance of travel pass
because of the rising number of covid19 positive cases in the province. She also
requires the wearing of face mask at all times.
5. The Grade 11 STEM - B students are raising suggestions for the upcoming
intramural. Each one has a time to share their thoughts on how to win the intramural.
6. Aling Nathy shouted to his son because he did not do the chores. All he did was to
play mobile legends and other online games.
7. Dondon’s father was killed. He is planning to make revenge but his mother talked
to him in private. His mother explained to him that committing revenge is not a good
act. She also specified the possible consequences if he commits revenge.
8. Rosemarie rolled her eyes twice when Joy, her enemy, crossed in front of her
without saying “excuse, me.” It was disrespecting.
9. The students are task to create a poster about the current situation of life amidst of
this pandemic. Each member of the group contributed thoughts and strategies to come
up with an authentic output.
10. Col. Taloma, a fireman, discusses the things that they need to do when there is an
earthquake. He also explained the different tendencies that may happen and gave
techniques on how to survive when you are trapped inside a building or a room.
H. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living
Respond to an effective communication considering gender roles in home and
society through a short role play.
Group 1. There is an Acquaintance Party in school wherein students
are coming from different places.
Group 2. Parents are talking to their children about the house rules.
Group 3. Children are complaining about the house rules.
Group 4. A teenager motivates the old ones.
Group 5. Class president shared about the plans for the intramural.

I. Making generalization and abstractions of the lesson


A. Again, what are the functions of communication?
B. Do you think that effective communication can be achieved if all members
of the family respect gender roles in home and even in society? Why?

J. Evaluating learning
Discuss or explain the functions of communication in the following scenario.
1. Vice-Ganda and Charisse personally thank their supporters
2. The President presents his plans for 2019.
3. The husband and wife agreed to have shared responsibilities at
home.
4. The tourist guide orients the guest regarding the rules while they
are in the vicinity.
5. June greets Rachiel and they start talking about their plans.

K. Additional activities for application and remediation


Make a collage which reflects the gender roles in home and society.
