Curriculum Editing
For this task, when reached out by ATSU to curriculum
map the standards that were given to students I quickly
noticed the repetitiveness and inability to track this
many standards yearly. ASDOH had so many standards
they wanted to uphold in just one course. Below you will
see the document I presented to the curriculum
committee to show the opportunity we have to simplify a
complicated and rigorous process. You will see that I
used our "Clinical Dentistry" course which used to
consist of 16 Objectives and 60 Core Assessments and
showed the capability to cut it down to 10 Objectives
with 10 Core Assessments. My change in their
curriculum began to make accreditation mapping
happen simultaneously as the course progresses, ease in
cross-training the curriculum team in curriculum
mapping, and took weight off of faculty to hit every
standard in the minimal time they already had. All that
was necessary was to communicate with the University
on what was needed by my program as mapping was not
successful for the past 4 years. My year as Senior ES will
be the first semester in many that ASDOH was able to
provide curriculum mapping before the University due
date.

CHANGES MADE
● Merge CLO 2 & 3 to develop one CLO revolving around IA&E the
knowledge of physics and chemistry in prevention, diagnosis, and
management of oral disease and the promotion and maintenance of oral
health.
● Merge CLO 6-9 to develop one CLO revolving around IA&E in the
prevention, diagnosis, and management of oral disease and the promotion
and maintenance of oral health
● Merge CLO 11 & 15 as they both focus on critical thinking & problem
solving to diagnose
● Take away key element CPAs… They are not needed or asked for by the
university. They want a broader sense of what CPA we are claiming.
NOTES
● All CPAs need to have a measurement and finding attached to each one
● CLOs are allowed to be broad and check multiple boxes at once. All the
merged CLOs mentioned above will have little to no effect on other
D-years’ curriculum. For example the merging of: pathology, biology of
microorganisms in physiology and pathology, pharmacology,
research methodology and analysis and informatics tools in the
merged CLO is alarming… There will be no effect on the same individual
CLOs these were categorized in prior (6, 7, 8, & 9).
● Told we can just use the best example of ONE assessment to prove our
CPA claim
● Highly advised by Jordan to combine multiple CLOs when asked. This
creates an easier flow for our curriculum to have a CLO that is more broad
rather than specific.
Student Success Presentations
Quarterly, I conduct a meeting with nine other doctors to dicuss the whereabouts
of out didactic portion of the D1/D2 Curriculum. Here we talk about anything
from failures and remediations didactically to struggles in practice and in clinic. I
have taken out the names and photos of the students for confidentiality. In these
meetings I have also introduced the idea of talking about the students' life outside
of the classroom. It is not documented in the slides, but at the Senior SE I
understand the tolls that mental health may have on student performance which is
something that some traditional doctors did not quite take into account. For
example, you will see a student who was described as "combative" and
"unprofessional" which is true, yet to paint that picture to others I intervened with
understanding that the student's divorce/child custody situation is not going well
(expressed by breakdown by said student in my office). Thus, they may be on edge,
sure enough once they were mentally settled in after I provided them the resources
they performed better and has not been a problem since. This is my way of
tracking the student performance, but also making sure that we remember that
they are people too. Adult learning theories are just now working on the
understanding of mental health and adult education, so taking this into account in
these situations is important. Students are more than numbers.

Course Scheduling
All semester schedules are created in the semester prior.
Below you will find the Spring 2022 Patient Management
Cases Module which also includes six submodules. The
delivery of schedules was not as organized, concise, or
informative. When starting, the team was bombarded
with questions about schedules every hour which got
tiring. I realized what needed to be done was a refresh on
formatting to then be able to tell students that all
information will be on this document. You will also see
that this schedule requires lots of organization as there
are twelve doctors who all work in the clinic in their
respective specialties whilst also not wanting to spread
their specialty's apart from each other. This took constant
communication with the clinic to block out these doctors'
schedules and making sure the doctors stay informed on
their sessions and what they are planning to teach. This
module also included a Cumulative Exam portion. To
ensure the success of students, I also set up Zoom review
sessions for each specialty that students were able to
attend to refresh their minds on the subject area.
