Question: People in community now could buy cheaper consumer goods.

Do the
advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
At the contemporary market, people have a wide range of choices for more
affordable commodities. Despite the fact that there are benefits seen from this
phenomenon, the drawbacks are obviously noticed.
The provision of cheaper products presents a number of advantages. There would
be an increase in living standards, especially in developing countries. For instance,
many years ago in VietNam, that a person had a phone just to contact others was not
commonly seen. However, nowadays everyone, included those of average income can
afford a smart phone from famous brands like SamSung or Apple at much reduced price
ranges. As a result, many ordinary people in VietNam have been living with a greater
degree of convenience and felicity. In addition, on the societal level, the affordability of
consumer products promotes people’s purchasing power, which contributes to the
development of the economy. It is widely known that the market’s demand for goods
increases when commodities’ exorbitant prices are reduced. This trend seems to
contribute to fostering the prosperity of a country’s economy.
However, I firmly believe that purchasing cheaper goods has its downsides which
seem to overshadow the benefits. Firstly, the reduction in quality is an expected result.
Many companies mass-produce goods with lower costs to meet the demand of public,
who often opt for inexpensive products, regardless of their core values. For example,
dietary supplement from unknown origins can cause unpredictable side effects for
users, which can lead to several health problems. Indeed, health threats to the buyers
and workers are one of the issues because the labors have to expose to unsafe
materials or low-quality ingredients, which contributes to decay their physical conditions.
Moreover, mass production is also associated with worker exploitation and international
outsourcing systems that render labor-intensive in undeveloped countries.
In conclusion, although the public can reap the benefits of buying cheaper goods, I
have a belief that this trend is a negative development which can pose an alarming
threat to the society.
