Scope and Delimitation
The focus of this study was confined to the information provided by the
comparative study in the performance of the Batch 2021-2022 graduates in their
Nursing Licensure Examination. This study was limited to College of Nursing
Echague Campus graduates year 2021-20nm,./?22.
This study looked into the comparative study of different K-12 strands in the
performance of their Nursing Licensure Examination provided by the researchers as
to; effects of K-12 strand on the Nursing Licensure Examination.
Definition of Terms
Some of the terms used herein were defined, either in their operational usage, as lifted
from authorities, or conceptually, to provide a comprehensive understanding of what
the study is all about.
K-12.
As stated by the official website of the Department of Education, K to 12
Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of Basic Education, six (6) years of
primary education, four (4) years of Junior High School, and Two (2) years of Senior
High School (SHS)] to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills,
develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level
skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. It is a tool and a basis for
identifying the different comparisons on the respondent's performance in taking the
NLE who took different K-12 strands in their SHS.
K-12 Strands.
According to the official website of the Department of Education, the senior high
school program is further broken down into learning strands and career tracks. The
learning strands in senior high school refer to the different areas of expertise under the
program, while the career tracks refer to the general categories of each field of study.
There are currently four career tracks composed of Academic, TVL/TVE, Arts and
Design, and Sports. Meanwhile, the eight learning strands are STEM, HUMMS,
ABM, GAS, Home Economics, Agri-fishery Arts, Industrial Arts, and ICT. K-12
strands are the strands of the respondents taken in Senior High School and basis to
compare their performance in the NLE.
Nursing.
According to the official website of the American Nurses Association (2010), it is
defined as the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities,
prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and
treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families,
communities, and populations. Nursing was used in the study since the respondents
are the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, who are taking their NLE.
Performance.
The action of carrying out a task at a certain point. Performance is used in the
study to identify if the respondents are passed or failed in the exam. It is used in the
study to know their excellence in the degree of nursing.
Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam.
It is a standardized test conducted by the Philippine Regulatory Commission
(PRC) to regulate the professional practice of nursing in the country as provided in the
Republic Act No. 7164 a.k.a. the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002. Simply put, this is
the ultimate nurse’s handbook in the country. It is used in the study to know the
performance of the respondents.
Score.
The number of points earned for correct answers on a test. These numerical
numbers are used to compare the results of different K–12 strands on the Nursing
Licensure Exam.
