Assignment #1

1.What is communication?

- The act of exchanging information, known as communication, can take place

one-on-one, over a communication device, or between two or more persons in
a group. Senders must transfer their thoughts or encode a message in order
for communication to take place. The receiver is the individual who gets this
communication, and it is up to the receiver to decipher or interpret it.

2. What is purposive communication?

- It is a three-unit course that gives students opportunity to communicate

effectively and appropriately to a multicultural audience in local or global
contexts while also developing their communication competence and cultural
and intercultural awareness. It is about writing, speaking, and presenting to
different audiences and for various purposes. It emphasizes on the strength of
language and the effect of visuals to emphasize the significance of ethically
communicating the message while providing students with the tools for critical
evaluation of a variety of texts.

3. Explain the purposes of communication.

- Communication serves five major purposes: to inform, to express feelings, to

imagine, to influence, and to meet social expectations. First purpose is to inform,
it is when people share their knowledge to other people. Informative
communication helps people to gather information on anything. Affective
communication deals with the process of expressing feelings, it may be a positive
or negative feelings towards things, places, events, or ideas. The act of creating
and, in most circumstances, sharing made-up situations is referred to as
imaginative communication. Imaginative communication occurs whenever people
make up jokes or stories, hypothesize, imagine, or pretend. Persuasive
communication may be defined as the process through which people attempt to
influence the beliefs or actions of others. Advertising and other forms of
persuasion typically involve strangers. Those responsible for creating
advertisements or commercials will make an effort to "know" the target audience.
A process through which people meet social expectations is called ritualistic
communication. Rituals were once thought of being religious or ceremonial
practices. People were required to carry out the ceremonies in a specific manner.
In a variety of social contexts, people continue to have high expectations about
how others should behave.
