The Patriot

The poem describes the dramatic rise and fall of a patriot. In the first stanza, the patriot is welcomed triumphantly as he enters the city with roses and people celebrating on rooftops. However, a year later as described in the final stanzas, the same people drag the patriot outside of the city to be hanged, throwing stones at him, having completely turned against the once beloved leader. The patriot accepts his fate, knowing he sacrificed all for the people.
