                             KAB SCOUT OUTDOOR PROGRAM
PRINCIPLES
The primary aim of the outdoor program for KAB Scouts is to get out, have fun and find out –
in that order. Half the fun of being out knows what to do and what to look for.
Taking the KAB Scouts out will mean fresh air and exercise; space to do the sort of things KAB
Scouts want to do without breaking windows, paint work and eardrums; and fun with the
outdoors and establishing an understanding and love of nature.
It will also provide the boy an opportunity to be away from home, maybe for the first time. He
will look forward to this adventure and, in a happy atmosphere, accomplish further important
steps towards independence. He will learn to be more self-reliant, having to fit in a community
larger than his own family.
For the leaders, it will be an opportunity to foster a real family spirit within the Kawan and there
will be a deeper understanding between the boys and themselves.
There will also be an opportunity to influence the boys in matters of character and cleanliness
which dos not occur at Kawan Meetings.

MANAGEMENT
1. GOOD PREPARATION. The Kawan Leader must plan very well the activities to be
   undertaken.
2. SURVEY OF AREA. The Kawan Leader must personally survey the area to determine
whether the site chosen will suit the prepared activities.
3. FACILITIES AND ACCOMMODATIONS. Ensure that adequate facilities and
   accommodations will be met.
4. EXPENSES. Decide on the expenses to be incurred by each participant.
5. TRANSPORTATION. The Kawan Leader must plan the transport and
accessibility from the assembly point to the site chosen.
6. BALANCE OF CONTENT. Outdoor activities must include fun, adventure, and instruction.
7. PROPER CONTROL OF KAB SCOUTS. To avoid trouble or damage caused to anyone
or any place, the Kawan Leader must delegate specific duties to reliable adult leaders.
POINTERS IN PLANNING AN OUTDOOR ACTIVITY
1. Always have First Aid Kit with you.
2. Count heads from time to time. Take immediate action if somebody is missing.
3. Beware of the casual stranger who would like to join in.
