Burabod DayCare Center DATE OF IMPLEMENTATION: July 20, 2011 TIME OF IMPLEMENTATION: 9:20-9:35 AM VENUE: Barangay Hall, Burabod, Pamplona, Cam. Sur PROPONENT: Larissa M. Severa BENEFICIARIES: Mothers of selected children with ages 0-6 of Brgy.Burabod DayCare Center OBJECTIVES: 1) Define and discuss nutrition and different nutrients that are essential for normal growth and development of children 0-6 years old 2) Emphasize importance of proper nutrition of children to their mothers 3) Assess the knowledge and understanding of mothers after the discussion TEACHING METHOD/S: -Collaborative Discussion -Use of Visual Aids -Handling of pamphlets DISCUSSION CONTENT: i.Overview of Nutrition of Preschoolers ii.Nutrition a.Nutrients and types b.What is calorie? c.The Food Pyramid Overview of Nutrition of Preschoolers Preschoolers: -with relatively slow growth; less interested in eating than he was during infancy -appetite will increase as he nears schoolage -likes plain food served attractively in separate dishes -often prefer to eat with their fingers -dislikes creamed or highly flavored food -great imitators; influenced by the example of their parents and siblings on eating as in other activities Measures to improve a preschoolers appetite: -Serve the meal in a quiet environment where there are few distractions -Provide rest periods before meals -Use pretty dishes -Provide comfortable chair and table -Give small servings -Ensure an atmosphere of joy during mealtime -Avoid bribing/forcing a child to eat if he didnt want to -Allow child to have sufficient time to eat his meal -Do not permit the child to nibble between meals -Plan a schedule for meal preparation with the preschooler

Nutrition---the aggregate of all the processes by which food is assimilated, growth promoted, and waste repaired in all living organisms. Nutrients---parts of the food that the body can use. The body needs nutrients for growth, for energy and to repair itself when something goes wrong. Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water are different kinds of nutrients that are found in food. a) Carbohydrates---provide energy b) Fats---provide energy c) Proteins---help with growth and maintain and repair body d) Vitamins---help the body to use food, help eyesight and skin, help fight infection e) Minerals---help build bones and teeth and work with the chemicals in the body f) Water--- helps with growth and repair of the body; works with the blood and chemicals; helps body get rid of wastes Calorie---measure of how much energy we get from food. The government recommends the number of calories that should be taken in for different age groups. Preschooler: 1,700 cal. (*DOH) Food Pyramid---shows the groups of foods that should be eaten every day; helps people choose the right food for good health and fitness.
