Chapter 1

introduction

Background of the study :

Similar to fast food, the final preparation of street foods occurs when the
customer orders the meal, which can be consumed where it is purchased or taken
away. Street foods refers to a wide variety of ready-to-eat foods and beverages
sold and occasionally prepared in public places, most notably streets. When
compared to restaurant meals, quick food and street food are less expensive and
present a tasty substitute for homemade meals. Despite these similarities, there
are differences between street food and fast food establishments in terms of
selection, setting, marketing strategies, and ownership.

Filipinos are known for their love for food. And that's the reason why a lot of
filipino people choose to eat street food than restaurants because of the
difference in food prices. And base on our research the best spot of stablishing a
street food is near at school and market where in their potential customers will
be students who have a limited budget. Like when your going around here in Brgy
Sasa some of the street food stall are in school, market and etc.

Street foods often reflect traditional local cultures and exist in an endless variety.
There is much diversity in the raw materials as well as in the preparation of street
food beverages, snacks and meals. Vendors' stalls are usually located outdoors or
under a roof which is easily accessible from the street. They have low-cost seating
facilities which are sometimes rudimentary. Their marketing success depends
exclusively on location and word-of-mouth promotion. Street food businesses are
usually owned and operated by individuals or families but benefits from their
trade extend throughout the local economy. For instance, vendors buy their fresh
food locally, thus linking their enterprises directly with small-scale farms and
market gardens.

3
According to study, food safety oversight of street food is lacking. In addition to
offering convenience for many, millions of low-income individuals rely on street
food for their livelihood, which has a significant positive impact on the economies
of many developing nations. Research has been done on the topic of food safety,
and some have elevated it to the status of a national security concern. In terms of
food safety oversight, street food is a weak link. By definition, street food is
"ready-to-eat foods and beverages served and prepared by vendors or hawkers in
streets or other public places," according to the Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO). For many people in poor nations, street food offers an easy
diet.
