Section. 3
(INSC2000, Para. 5.1.7 & INIC 1000, Detail INIC0002)
Saudi Aramco: Company General Use
For Multiple layer insulation succeeding layer shall stagger :
A) 9-12" (approximate) for circumferential butt joints of beneath layers.
SAES-N-001,
B6
B) 2" Minimum for Longitudinal joints of beneath layers. See INIC 1000, Section. 3
detail INIC0002.
(INSC2000, Para. 5.1.8)
Joint sealers are applied to all joints of single layer & only to joints of an
SAES-N-001,
B7 outer layer of multi-layer applications.
Section. 3
(INSC2000, Para. 5.1.9,)
All insulation is smooth & free from cracks, voids & depressions greater
SAES-N-001,
B8 than 1/8 inch (3 mm).
Section. 3
(INSC 2000, Para 5.1.11)
All cracks, voids & depressions in the insulation greater than 1/8 inch (3
mm) are refitted, not filled. SAES-N-001,
B9
(PIP INSC 2000, Para 5.1.11) Section. 3
Bore coating of Cellular glass is completed on surface areas listed:
A) Surface operating temperature range cycles above 400° F.
B) Surface being insulated experiences high vibration. SAES-N-001,
B10
C) Insulation carries the load of the pipe (At pipe hanger or supports) Section. 3
(PIP INSC2000, Para. 5.1.12)
Protrusions through insulation (stanchions, dummies, etc) except nozzles
are insulated as follows:
A) Insulation extends for 4 times the adjacent insulation thickness as
measured from equipment or pipe surface. (INIC 1000, Detail INIC0001) SAES-N-001,
B11
B) Insulation Section. 3
thickness for protrusion is 1/2 the insulation thickness of the adjacent
insulated surface but not less than 38 mm minimum. (Detail INIC0001)
(INSC2000, Par 5.1.13, 5.1.14)
Contraction joints are installed conforming to INSC2000, Table 5.6.
Contraction joints are also installed in uninterrupted straight pipe
SAES-N-001,
B12 insulation run lengths equal to or greater than 1/2 the maximum allowed
Section. 3
distance.
(INSC2000, Table 5.6. See Attachment 2)
Insulation for Contraction joints is installed per INIC1000 Detailed
SAES-N-001,
B13 Sketches INIC0003, INIC0004, INIC0005, or INIC0006 as applicable.
Section. 3
Insulation Supports on Vertical Piping are installed (bolted rings, etc)
directly above all elbows, flanges, or flanged valves with additional
support at a maximum spacing of 24 feet of uninterrupted length (but not
SAES-N-001,
B14 less than contraction joint spacing). (PIP INSC2000, Para. 5.7):
Section. 3
Note: See INIC0001, INIC0003 & INIC0004 for support ring
configurations.
