Seen the movie? See
the real place!
‘This is the first in our week-long focus on the best
holiday spots for film fanatics. As a holida
more popular than ever and it's getting easier and easier
to find out where your favourite movies were filmed.
(Our first destination is Monument Valley, the home of
a thousand westerns. When you drive into Monument
Valley, you really do feel as if you are stepping onto
the set of a cowboy movie. Film directors have been
‘making westerns here since the 1930s and the huge red
sandstone rock formations have provided the scenery to
movies as different as Stagecoach in 1939 and Thelma
and Louise in 1991. Monument Valley covers an area of
Arizona and Utah and although it looks quite remote,
it's actually easy to get to. Navajo families have lived
‘there for generations and a lot of Monument Valley
is protected land. If you want to take a tour, the best
vay is to go with a Navajo guide. A trip to Monument
valley is all about the scenery and so one excellent
idea is to take a hot-air balloon trip over the valley. A
local business there has been running these tours ev
summer for a few years now. That's the way to go!
And for somewhere completely different to the
emptiness of Arizona, try Prague. It's a really
atmospheric city and since Hollywood ‘discovered’
Prague in the 1990s, this beautiful and vibrant place
has been attracting a lot of action heroes. Tom Crul
was here to film Mission Impossible, and Wesley Sri
chased vampires through the Old Town in Blade I
Prague has always been one of Europe's main cult
centres, so there's a lot to see including museums,
and fantastic architecture. In the last few years adi
have been adding more flights and more connect
it's really easy to get there.
‘Tomorrow we'll focus on London with information
about walking tours through the settings of,
Hil, Shakespeare in Love and Bridget Jones. We:
feature a family treat for Harry Potter fans at Ki
