Money matters
As the saying goes, money makes the world _____ around. It’s a fact that money influences our
everyday lives, we need money to ____ able to live, to buy food and clothes, to pay the ________
and for entertainment as well. As we live _____ a consumer society , we are always encouraged to
spend money on new products and services. Unfortunately, we can say that we always buy more,
than we ________ or than we can afford.
Advertisements try to persuade customers to buy their products or to use the services that they offer
by creating a desire for the item they advertise. To avoid buying unnecessary things it’s always
_______ to write a shopping list.
During your everyday shopping you can pay in cash or by credit card. Paying by credit card is
convenient because you don’t have to deal with coins and banknotes, and using a credit card is fast
and easy. On the other hand, if you lose your credit card, anyone can withdraw money from it. The
other problem with credit card is that you never know how much money you actually have. But if you
pay in cash, you always know how much money you have in your wallet.
People can spend or save, raise or donate, lend or borrow, or inherit or invest money. If you want to
buy something ______ expensive like a flat, a house or a car and you do _____ have the money to
buy it, you can apply ______ a loan at a bank. The bank transfers the required money to your bank
account and you have to pay it back in monthly instalments, with a certain interest rate. People
should be _____________ when getting a loan from a bank because if they can’t pay it back, they
might run into dept easily.
Pocket money: It’s often discussed whether children _______ get pocket money or not. I think it’s a
good idea to give a certain _______ of money to children on a regular basis because in this way they
can learn ______ to save money or what it’s worth spending on and what is not. Dealing with
pocket money teaches them how to handle money in a useful and clever way.
Bank loan: If we would like to buy ___________ that we haven’t got money for, of example if we
want to buy a house or a flat or a new car, we can get a mortgage or a loan from a bank and pay it
back in monthly instalments. Banks offer a lot of loans which can help us out in certain cases but we
have to take it into consideration how much, and with what interest rate because we have to pay it
back.
Personally, I’m rather a saver / spender, because...
