Suction Over Strong 1 - 2 Clubs - N

The document discusses the bridge bidding convention of "suction over strong 1 or 2 clubs." Under this convention, responses by partner assume the opener has a one suit hand until proven otherwise. A response in a new suit shows acceptance of that suit or one of the opener's possible suits. This allows partner to find a 8-card fit or force the opener to their true suit. The convention responses over strong 1 or 2 clubs openings are detailed, with doubles showing a balanced hand and calls at the one or two level showing two suited hands. Jump overcalls remain natural and preemptive.

Suction over strong 1 or 2

These suction responses are slightly changed from other articles. We also play Suction over the
opponent's 1NT and these responses are the same for sake of memory.

Responding using Suction is to assume that partner has the one suiter until you hear
differently. It's when you have that suit or one of the possible other suits that it is the time to
have a field day. You super accept into the "other suit" which they may have assuming the one
suiter. If they have that suit, all well and good. If they do not, they bail to their single suit
which you also have. A win win situation.

Example:

1 1 * Pass ?

* spades or clubs and diamonds

You have xxxxx x Kxxxx xx, I would leap to 4 . Partner has spades or the minors. If
they have spades, they correct which is happiness. If they do not have spades, they have the
minors, so we are well on our to being an irritating nuisance to the opponents.
