Sport History
Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is practiced in practically
all the world, Every four years there’s a competition which is called the World Cup,
and the sport itself is maintained throughout the year with different leagues.
Properly speaking, the modern history of soccer begins in Great Britain in the 19th
century, when the first unifying rules of carnival soccer emerged, beginning to be
practiced in collegiate associations outside the festive season. In fact, in 1863 the
Cambridge collegiate rules of play were the basis of the current code of rules, also
taking rules from the Sheffield way of play.
Thus, with only 13 rules, modern soccer was promoted by the newly created
Football Association (FA). The term soccer, derived from "association" and the
suffix -er, also came from there, albeit a few years later, and the first league
competition in history, the Football League, was born in 1888. Its purpose was to
raise sufficient funds to be able to professionalize FA players.
